U.K.trio
Circle Of Crows have got a debut EP on their hands, it is titled "Everything Comes After Zero".Off the EP comes an all new track called "How To Wait For Nothing",with the band already making plans for attack, playing shows, tours, and much more. The band goes on to talk about this EP, it's single, and playing those shows for sure!
1. What are your names and what do you do in the band?
Kyle Gormley – Guitar/Vocals, Steve Sudlow – Drums, Josh Smith – Bass.
2. Let’s start off with an icebreaker. If you could describe your band in 3 words, what would they be?
Groovy, Loud, Diverse.
3. You guys are a newer band so many people might know about your history. Would you be able to delve into it a little?
The band formed after I (Kyle, vocals/guitar) bumped into Steve (drums) one night and decided to have a jam. We’d known each other for years having played gigs together in various separate bands. Josh (Bass) played with me in an earlier incarnation of Circle Of Crows and he’d just moved back to Cornwall from Brighton so it made sense to get him back on board.
4. Where does the name Circle Of Crows come from and mean?
Circle Of Crows is a name Josh came up with when the old line-up wanted to change from our previous name (Breathe). We spent a few weeks tossing ideas back and forth and when Josh said that name it was just something we all instantly loved.
5. Who are some of your influences and why?
We take a lot of inspiration from 3 piece bands, Biffy Clyro, Muse, Rage Against The Machine, Arcane Roots, RHCP. Groups where just one guitar, drums and bass make a huge amount of noise. Songwriting wise I think Soundgarden, Alter Bridge, Incubus. Bands who do their own thing and don’t necessarily worry about one sound.
6. How about the music, what type does the band play, and what sort of topics do the lyrics cover?
We normally categorize ourselves as hard rock though not all of our tracks are loud and in your face. Our songs range from straight up metal riffing to more anthemic rock tracks. Lyrically I usually take from personal experiences. I’ve always found that writing and singing about things I struggle with becomes a sort of cathartic experience once I get onstage and play.
7. Speaking of which, tell me about your current single "How To Wait For Nothing"?
"How To Wait For Nothing", was the obvious choice for EP opener and lead single. It encompasses our sort of signature sound as a band, heavy riffing to start with a grooving verse and big chorus. Lyrically it’s about me questioning a creator after a personal tragedy.
8. This track comes off your debut EP "Everything Comes After Zero", tell me about the release as a whole?
"Everything Comes After Zero", is a perfect introduction to us as a band and we’re so proud of it. The six tracks show every aspect of our music from the anthemic Into The Sun, the crazy musical madness of the title track to the slow, epic 7 minute closer Open Doors. We wanted people to hear what we’re capable of and we really think we pulled it off.
9. What makes this EP debut, a debut for you as a band, what is it that you want people to take away after listening?
We just want people to enjoy it. I always feel listening to music is a very personal experience so if people take something from the lyrics or just enjoy the grooves and musicality of the EP then as far as I’m concerned, we’ve succeeded.
10. Do you have any other plans for this year, that you want to share?
The rest of the year is just more shows and pushing the release once it drops. We’d also really like to shoot a music video, so hopefully that will be happening soon.
