Sunshine Riot Discloses the Details of Music Creativity!
With their third full-length album "Lonely Hotel", set-up, and newest single "Interstate", out and about, turbo fusion jazz act Sunshine Riot, are sure to be just that a complete riot of an act! The band gathered together to disclose the details about their music, the album, and just how they want to get out and play!
1. Please go on to introduce yourselves to our readers.
Hiya - we are Sunshine Riot - cow punk, or something, from Boston, MA. We are comprised of: Mark Tetreault and Jonny Orton, little guitar boys, Steve Sheperd, little drummer boy, and Jeff Sullivan, little bass boy.
2. How did the band form and why did you want to make the music that you do?
Jonny and Jeff (we call him Swampthing) started what what would become Sunshine Riot when we were teenagers. Through a series of line up changes we eventually became Sunshine Riot about 5 years later. I’m not sure we ever really even knew what kind of music we wanted to make - we were just hungry to write something with heart. Early on we were turrrrble. Groping in the dark. But eventually we got the hang of rock and roll.
3. Can you tell me the story as to why you went with calling yourselves the name that you did?
Don’t really remember truthfully - we were kids and we thought it was a cool name. Now, 11 years later, it’s too late, we own the web domain.
4. What about the music, what type of music is it exactly that you call your own creation?
Reverse socialist turbo fusion jazz hop.
5. Where do your influencers come from and what are they so important to you?
I think we’re all influenced by different artists / genres. Although, we share some common ground across the whole band (Nirvana, The Beatles, The Replacements). I think other artists/art are probably the single greatest source of inspiration. If you’re looking closely they’ll show you a trick and we’re always looking to steal :)
6. What are your songs about and what types of topics do they tend to cover?
Hmmm, tough question to answer. I think we write about a lot of subjects. Songs are great vehicles for story telling and they really represent their own unique brand of narrative. I think we’re a blues band at heart. Songs about struggle, stories about the fight that is life. That’s the stuff we’re interested in. These songs ain’t about wedding cake and champagne.
7. Speaking of songs, what have you released so far, that you can disclose?
Well, we’ve put out two full length records, "A Fresh Bottle and a Brand New Day" and "Black Coffee Sigh." We are currently promoting our 3rd full length, "Lonely Hotel." We’ve also produced a series of recordings with the Russian government, but for obvious reasons, we cannot disclose.
8. Will any of this content be made into singles and or video releases?
Yep - the first single off of "Lonely Hotel" is called "Interstate" and it is out now! More to follow before we release the whole sheeeebang.
9. Can you discuss what the plans are for you guys for this year?
Put out this record, tour, go home, sleep.
10. Would you like to say or want to add anything else?
When I was 8 years old I flushed Tommy King’s lunch down the toilet because he told me my glasses looked stupid. I’m not sorry and I feel no remorse.
