Into The Unknown Chats of Music and All Else As Well!
Unique is quite the word to describe rock music. Thus, with an act such as INTO THE UNKNOWN, who's array of content is slowly expanding little by little, they have come a ways in just a bit amount of time. In fact, the band goes into chatter about themselves and their music.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band really started as a recording project really, and evolved from that, there was no grand plan for a band at all. Rupert was producing a song for pop singer, and needed a guitarist for a session, so Ryan was recommended, and the two hit it off. Rupert had always fancied doing a rocked up cover of Chris DeBurgh’s "Don’t Pay the Ferryman" and suggested it to Ryan who immediately said yes. When it came to a singer, Ryan suggested Lucie who, at the time, was singing in another band with Ryan. It all came together well, so they decided to record another song, "Wrecking Ball" then they wrote a song together, and the chemistry was there. It soon became apparent that they had nearly half an album done, so the band was finally born. Rupert is a producer, and front of house sound man, known for working with bands such as Vixen, Sham 69, Thunderclap Newman, and White Lion, Ryan is a music school graduate, a fan of bands such as ACDC and Guns N Roses, and Lucie once won a TV talent show in her native Czech Republic! We are also just about to announce some new additions to the lineup!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Into The Unknown came about because basically, as there hadn’t been a plan to start a band, all the songs are quite diverse, everything we did had no plan, no end game, we were literally going forward into the unknown.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and the music scene now is not as vibrant as it was a while ago. A few years back, some of the music venues in the area were quite iconic (The Nags Head in High Wycombe, in either form, the Attic or the Blues Loft, hosted some amazing bands and was one of the leading circuit venues, and of course Friars in Aylesbury hosted everyone who was anyone!) Now its mostly open mic nights etc in pubs, which can also be great. Obviously, recommending a local band, we would say “Into the Unknown”!
4. How would you describe your style?
Musically, we all have different influences, Ryan is a huge Classic Rock fan, Lucie is a Pop and Musicals fan (Adele, Lady Gaga) and Rupert is a fan of symphonic rock. The band ends up with, what we have been told, a unique rock sound … hard edged guitars, symphonic keys and melodic vocals.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far we have released the album “Out of the Shadows” in 2017, and a mini album of covers “The Other Side of the Wall” at the end of 2018. What you can expect is something different on each song. The covers for example are not the sort of songs you would immediately expect a rock band to perform, such as “I Wanna Be Like You” from the Jungle Book! What you can expect from all of it though, is a song that hopefully showcases the passion that went into writing and recording them.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have just finished recording our second full album, entitled Breaking the Silence, which will be released later this year, and have already started planning the third (which will be an interesting evolution as with the new members of the band, we are introducing new dynamics, new influences and new songwriters!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
As we mentioned, we re about to announce new members of the band very soon, which is very exciting as it means that we will finally be able to go out live. We have done some limited acoustic shows, but we all feel that our music needs to be showcased with a full band, and fully rocked up! We will be announcing shows on the website and Facebook as soon as we know them ourselves. There are a lot of plans going on at the moment, to tie in live shows with the new album release.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
More recording, and live shows!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The CD is available on Amazon, and digitally you can stream or download the songs from all legit sites, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes etc. We are lucky enough to be distributed by major distributors (Universal and Sony) so you should have no issues finding it.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We get different reactions to different songs all the time, we’ve had people in tears at some of them, and some sing along. We just hope that people relate to the songs, and however they react, if they do just remember them, then that’s a bonus for us!
