Fear Incorporated's William Talks of New Album and the Future
Theatrical macabre avant garde act FEAR INCORPORATED have been around for a little over a decade now, releasing an amount of content, including most recent album "Apparitions". William Westwater is one of the many members who has stuck it out for the long run, as he is one of the co-founders and composer of the band. He being the one to talk of this band, it's recent album and future.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Fear Incorporated were formed by myself William Westwater and by Cam Campbell, the latter who is an ex member of the legendary Gothic band 'Sex Gang Children'-there has been a few line ups and changes since we formed in 2008 featuring members of Demented Are Go,Selfish C*nt and also Exit Strategy and Voodoo Bible.
Since then we have released 7 albums on various record labels and themed on fear and derivatives of it-be it historical, phobias and everything that strikes terror into the heart of humankind.
Currently the line up consists of myself and Berwyn Waddon who also collaborates with our other projects Exit Strategy and Voodoo Bible
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The objective of the band was to theme albums on fear in general and I came by the name whilst in reflection and saw Fear as a company or corporation and the name Fear Incorporated was borne from there.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band was initially based in Edinburgh in Scotland and also in London with our first line up-now we are based in the former and also in Wales, I don't involve myself much with the local music scene as we are a studio band so far focusing on writing albums and making videos for the songs rather than playing live, I don't have any local bands I would like to recommend but Gnostic Gorilla from Canada are original and are very good and stand out-they will release their new "Shaman Rave" album on Cleopatra Records later this summer.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our musical style has been described as a lot of things over the years but "Theatre Macabre Avant Garde" is the moniker we usually fly our flag under-we are a fusion of styles plus have our own homegrown perspective of alternative music and the way we write it.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released 7 albums-6 studio albums and one compilation all on assorted record labels over the past 11 years. "Sawney's Cave" was our first, "Phobos" second, "Dark Carnival" next, "Cloak And Dagger" was 4th and "Devilsh Brood" 5th-closely followed by our "Best of'", "Fever Dream", and our current new album "Apparitions".
It really is best to expect the unexpected with Fear Incorporated-as the themes for our albums change so mostly does the music and its approach-for example "Phobos" was Gothic/Post Punk sounding using drums, bass and guitar to give it a dark grating vibe for its subject of phobias and "Dark Carnival" has a sinister cabaret and avant garde feel to it using old vintage organs and carny like music to give the atmosphere that the listener is within the audience at an evil circus-So really going in with an open mind and a liking to dark avant garde music would be best for someone new to Fear Inc.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have just released "Apparitions" on the Sacred Realm Records label which is available on CD and digital download-its themed upon all things supernatural, ghostly and macabre and can be purchased via the SRR website at https://fearincorporated.bandcamp.com/album/apparitions. We also are working upon a new album "Something Wicked This Way Comes" and we will appear on a few compilation albums over the course of the next few months.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
For location and health issues within the band there haven't been any live shows or touring-something theatrical and nightmarish would be required which would also require more musicians and personnel for props, effects etc-Perhaps in time however we will do so but not at this time.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We intend to keep on writing albums, hopefully doing one a year and writing more videos for the tracks. We also will keep working on raising awareness for the band-we have a good following thus far but the more the merrier really.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I think they should feel as if they haven't listened to anything quite like this before-whether they like the music or not really-also if they were a little disturbed or unsettled emotionally or mentally too after their listening pleasure then I think that would have achieved pretty much what we are out to do lol-Of course we also want the listener to enjoy our music and would hope they would get hooked from there on in and come back for more-a bit like reading a good horror story.
