Moonshade Says Lots About Music, Playing, and More!
Metal act MOONSHADE have been around for almost 10 years now, releasing an array of releases, with new material coming soon enough. Shows in the works and planned out already with more writing and show playing to share with the world as time persists it. Find out what the band had to say about all of this and much more.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Moonshade are the lusitanian response to the more melodic side of death-metal, with a charismatic and deeply personal sound signature that mixes a myriad of other musical influences that go beyond the genre.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The origin of the name lies with our previous drummer Cristiano Brito and our guitarist Pedro Quelhas. It has a double meaning, since “shade” is also another word for wraith or ghost.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Our music scene, particularly the metal scene, is incredibly rich and full of talented people. Bands like Gaerea, Destroyers Of All, Sinistro, Dark Oath, Analepsy and The Ominous Circle come to mind, among many others.
4. How would you describe your style?
We have great influences like Insomnium, Dark Tranquility, Amorphis, but we also have more conservative influences like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and we even listen to artists outside the metal genre, like Eminem, Michael Jackson, Queen, and a lot more. When we get in the studio to write material we only write what we feel and what we all like, and we try not to close ourselves within the four walls of a subgenre.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Our first demo, The Path Of Redemption, was released online, which gave us enough hype at live shows and online to record and self-release our debut EP, "Dream | Oblivion". In October 2018, our magnum opus and debut album, "Sun Dethroned" was released via Art Gates Records, resulting in two sold out shows in Lisbon and Porto. We prefer not to spoil anyone, so here’s our pitch: if you’re a music fan, check it out. If you’re a metal fan, you should definitely check it out!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are currently six songs into the follow-up of "Sun Dethroned". No rest for the wicked!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
For now we have 3 shows announced in Portugal, one of them sharing the stage with Omnium Gatherum, one of our greatest influences. We are also currently working on taking "Sun Dethroned" to the rest of the world.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We do this out of love for writing good music and sharing it with the world. Whatever comes from that, good or bad, shall be embraced.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Spotify, Bandcamp, iTunes, etc. To purchase our merchandise you can access our online store at moonshade.bigcartel.com.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
There are tons of blood, sweat and tears into each and every song. We put our passion for music into every note, beat and scream, and we hope that you can feel that as vividly as we do. Cheers!
