These Fast Times Talks of Touring More and Creating New Music!
Punk pop rockers THESE FAST TIMES have been around for a short while, but even though that may be, they have still gone on releasing not only an EP but an album as well. All new content is in the works, with them heading out on the road again very soon! The band goes on to talk about what they have planned with music and wanting to tour!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
These Fast Times are a four-piece punk-rock band formed from the ashes of multiple bad decisions, misspent youth and a unifi...ed-need to cause a major ruckus at any given time. Armed with the fuzziest of distorted guitars, relentless pounding drums, p-h-a-t bass-lines and a whole lot of screaming with a little bit of vocal-melody included – These Fast Times are continually finding ways to overwhelm, offend & entertain their audience through all of
their five-senses.
The rotting-core of the band’s line-up currently includes Jeffrey Vuorela (Vocals, Guitar), Jason Bellafontaine (Bass, Vocals), Thomas Kolofsky (Lead Guitar) and Ryan Kennedy (Drums). Each member got started in the usual way…they got into music early-on in life etc. etc., started bands, ended bands and experienced all the hardships necessary to put a massive punk-chip on their shoulders. Officially combining their talents & stank of desperation together in 2015,
These Fast Times have gone on to fill up the space in front of them with fans of true-punk and drain many a beer-can since.
Discovering quickly that they could stand each other’s personalities, energy and smell – These Fast Times shut themselves away in the studio and began to write, create & refine. Even the band-members were now able to vouch for their music as ‘not half-bad finally…and though perhaps reluctantly, pride in their dirty punk-rock sound began to take hold of these four from Montreal…
The results of the writing and recording session became the six new songs released by These Fast Times on their self-titled record released in February, 2016. Playing shows to support the album all throughout the year – you can expect These Fast Times ready to show up right to your own bloody front door if it means they can play another show before they all croak. Main reason being…somewhere along the lines, all four members of the band realized that the music they were making…as grimy and dirty as it might be…was music that NEEDED to be played…music that the people WANTED to hear.
Make no mistake – These Fast Times don’t put themselves through all the shit that comes along with being in a punk-rock band for their own enjoyment; no – it’s a far more selfless act. They do it for YOU. Come get some!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Originally we wanted to be called "Excited School Girls" or something to that effect, but we realized that searching for this band name online could potentially bring up an astounding amount of porn sites, so we rethought about it and decided to change it. These Fast Times comes from the lyrics of the song "Fast Times" by Bouncing Souls, from their Comet album. At one point in the song they sing "These Fast Times" and Ryan, being a big Bouncing Souls fan, always wanted to name a band after that phrase. After hearing the name we agreed that it would be a great name for us, seeing as we play fast and everything was coming together for our band fast.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
These Fast Times is based out of Montreal. The scene is a weird one because with all the construction a lot of people don't bother coming out to shows because its so complicated to get around, but the ones that do come out are very supportive of the bands and get super into the music being played regardless of the styles being mixed.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is a mix of punk/ pop punk/ rock. It stems from Ryan and Jeff liking the "faster punk", Jason liking the "slower punk" and Thomas liking rock music. It creates a nice medley of music that we love playing.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
As of right now we have an EP, and an LP, we are currently in the midst of writing new content that were super excited to get into the studio to record.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yep we currently have 4-5 that we're working on and we keep writing when ever we can.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We just completed a mini tour of Ontario which was a blast. We can't wait to get back on the road again.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
As a band we'd like to do a European tour and a cross Canada tour. We'd also like to play more festivals and continue to write new music.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We're pretty much everywhere. Spotify, Youtube, Google Play, and Apple Music. we also have the CD's and merch for sale at our shows and at www.thesefasttimes.com!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We want people to remember the high energy sound, Fast playing and share the passion that brought us to the punk scene to begin with. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to write me.
