A Better Hand's Jordon and Taylor Talk of a Great Time, Playing and Creating Music!
Pop punk band A BETTER HAND had it's inception back in 2015, since then releasing material on and off over the course of the past few years. Band members Jordon Salgado vocalist and Taylor Allen on drums, both take some time to talk about the band's music and having a great time with all of it.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Taylor - A Better Hand started back in 2015 from an old band of mine. We played a show with Kyle's band at the time and he was interested in playing bass for us and we needed a bass player. We met Jordon through a recommendation from a mutual friend. Funny enough, we initially had him try out for guitar. He would've made it either way though!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name stands for new beginnings and always being able to start again. No matter how bad things get, they'll always get better.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Jordon - We’re based out of St Paul in Minnesota. The music scene is diverse and we definitely have a lot of great bands to play with. A coupe bands I could name would be Odds of an Afterthought, Heart to Gold, Unturned and the Shackletons.
4. How would you describe your style?
Jordon - Our style is hard to pinpoint I think, but only because we’re all so diverse and come from different backgrounds. I really love pop punk and alternative music, so I try to bring that into the mix.
Taylor - We are definitely pop punk, but I also think we've got a unique sound that doesn't quite fit the term "generic"
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Jordon - Our new E.P Out of Sight and Out of Mind is out now on all platforms, and if you’re a fan of bands like Neck Deep, Knuckle Puck, State Champs or Real friends, we think you might enjoy it.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Jordon - We are currently writing right now for our next project and are so excited about it. We expect to be laying down demos very soon.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Jordon - Touring is literally a dream for me. Getting to meet new people and play music every night is an incredible feeling.
Taylor - Right now we're just writing and getting ready for the studio so we don't have any tours this fall. However, we're really eager to get back on the road.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Jordon - We’re just trying to write music, play music and have a great time. Whatever comes of it is alright with me.
Taylor - We all want to do this as a career. We're working hard to make that happen, but we're having a good time along the way!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Taylor - Right now you can stream us on any platform. We've also got a couple of music videos available on YouTube. Bandcamp is the best place to buy our stuff!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Jordon - I think I was pretty vulnerable on this E.P and the lyricism to me is me opening up about a lot of problems I’ve had in my life. Music for me was always a way to help me through issues and a way to relate to an artist. All I can ever really hope is we’ve made a difference for somebody, no matter how little, and that we can connect on that level.
Taylor - I really just want someone to be able to connect in some way. Oh and the drums. ;)
