Impvlse Give A Great Discussion on Upcoming Plans and Being Heard!
Context act IMPVLSE released their debut EP "Vice Versa", pushing it for all it is worth, besides always working on all new music as it see's fit. Some shows are in the works but right now a break is needed for the meanwhile. The band goes into great discussion about themselves, music, and wanting to get themselves out there for all to hear!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Everything started off with Jason (Lead Guitar) scrolling through a comment section under a 9gag post to randomly stumble over a funny comment. This comment was posted by Marcel (Bass) and just out of curiosity Jason found out that Marcel was also obsessed with heavy music and coincidentally lived around the area. After contacting Marcel and sharing the desire to form a band they went looking for other members to complete the formation. A couple of months later we found Dave (Drums) in a Facebook group looking to join a band and Tom (Rhythm Guitar) who went to the same school as Marcel. In September 2015 we all finally met in a rehearsal room of a friend to jam for the first time. The jam sessions became a weekly routine where we got to know each other, created our first songs and laid the foundation for the band.
After just playing as an instrumental band in our rehearsal until 2017 we decided to look for a vocalist and shot a music video for our song "Curious Minds" to attract a fitting voice. After a couple of different auditions with singers Chris (Vocals) came along and we felt that he was the right fit for our songs. In the coming months, the instrumental songs came to life with Chris' vocals. Since then we started playing shows around the area and building a name for ourselves in the region. 2019 marked the most exciting year for us as we started playing concerts outside of our area and had the chance to play a tour in Russia. Last year also meant the release of the music video to our song "Lost Latitudes" and the release of our first EP "Vice Versa" that just came out in November.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The story of our name IMPVLSE is rather unexciting as we were just looking for something that sounded cool to us and doesn't put us in a box. We wanted a name that doesn't bind us to a certain genre or scene, that gives us freedom of what we can become. We want to give our name meaning by the music we create.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Nuremberg, even though none of us currently live there as we live in the surrounding cities. We started off in Nuremberg with our first rehearsal room and our first shows, so we have a strong connection to the city. There are many other local bands with a similar style like ours in this region, which makes it hard to book good shows as the venues have a huge demand. However, it is a great place to be for a young band because there are many people that have an interest in heavy local music and you often get invited by befriended bands, so the scene is alive in Nuremberg, that’s for sure. There are a lot of local bands that deserve a shout out but the first ones that come to mind are our friends in Vermilion (Alternative Rock), Revanchist (Metal) and Drown The Sun (Metalcore/ Djent).
4. How would you describe your style?
Our music draws inspiration from many different sources but can overall be summed up as Progressive Metalcore. We try to connect ambient and cinematic ingredients with progressive elements to finally put it into a Metalcore context. The result, we feel like, is a variety of songs with every track having its own character, atmosphere, and emotion.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
As already mentioned, we just have released our first EP called "Vice Versa" out in November last year. The EP is the accumulation of four years of work and gives you a clear idea of who we are as a band right now and how we got there. You can expect music with depth and meaning, music that is in its core very atmospheric and melodic but can also be very rough and aggressive.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Currently, we are not in the studio to work on new music since we just recently released the "Vice Versa" EP, but we are always working on new music. Some songs and lyrics are already written, and we are planning another EP for early 2021. We are sure that there will be another single coming up until the release of the EP.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Right now, we are taking a little break from playing shows. We will continue with some shows around our city in February. In summer we will play some festivals in Germany and we are super stoked for our show at the "Rock im Park" Festival in Nuremberg, which will definitely be our biggest show so far. Additionally, we are planning to go on tour in the fall of 2020, but there’s nothing to be announced yet.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
In the future, we plan to write more music, play more shows and continue to build our fan and listener base. It’s hard to predict how the future will pan out as things always come differently as expected, especially in the early stages of a band. But be sure that we will keep moving forward and keep up our efforts.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to our music on all available platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon,... In case you are interested in buying some of our merch or the EP, check out the store on our website www.impvlse.de. We appreciate every kind of support!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
This is a tough question because everyone looks for something else when they are listening to music. We think our music is special because of the atmosphere we create. Every single instrument plays its part to create the emotions the songs manage to convey. The vocals are complimented by expressive instrumentals that carry the lyrics and the story that they tell. We want the listener to remember the atmosphere and emotion, we want them to feel connected.
