Indigo Storm Gets the Trio Together to Chat It Up!

Rock, alternative, progressive go getters INDIGO STORM is a trio of musicians, whose time has been great thus far. The band has gone on to self-release an EP and have an all new EP coming forth real soon. Aside from the new tunes, the band plans to play shows and just want to build upon the fan base currently building whilst also writing more music as they do best. Find out what the band had to say from the chat below!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Looking to form a progressive rock trio, we (CJ Jones, Ryan Slayton, and David DeWolfe) got together during the summer of 2017.  Having played with a variety of other bands in the local music scene, we developed a mutual respect for each other’s musicianship.  Within days of a few informal jam sessions, we recognized our musical chemistry and Indigo Storm was born.

CJ Jones (guitarist/vocalist):   I got my first guitar when I was 7 and was performing by the time I was 9.   I knew early on that I didn’t want to perform as a solo artist -   I wanted to be in a band with like-minded musicians.

Ryan Slayton (drummer):  I started with orchestra in 4th grade, trumpet in 5th grade, and percussion (like my dad) in 6th grade. I grew as a player in high school, (playing in percussion ensemble, marching band and jazz band) and found my way into a band with CJ in 10th grade. A lineup change and a few years later, here we are!

David De Wolfe (bassist/vocalist):  The summer before my freshman year of high school, my best friend sent a video of him playing the worst rendition of ‘Chapter Four’ by Avenged Sevenfold  ever -  but I sat in awe thinking it was the most righteous action on the planet. He told me I was going to pick up bass and that we were going to start a band. When I started playing it felt second nature, I loved playing. I quickly became involved in bands - first a thrash metal band, then a progressive metal band, then here I am with Indigo Storm.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

"Indigo Storm" just seemed to be a good fit.  We are like three Indigo minds - curious, creative, and sometimes perceived by friends and family as a little strange.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based out of Lexington and Georgetown, Kentucky with a healthy and diverse music scene.  On any given night you can find live music to suit your preferred genre -  be it Southern Rock, Blues Rock, Jazz, Country, or Progressive Metal.

4. How would you describe your style?

We consider our music to be progressive alternative/ progressive metal.  Our sound is driven by a fascination with the rhythmic complexity and intricacy found in progressive music.  You can hear influences from bands such as Tool, Rush, Chevelle, Alice In Chains, Perfect Circle.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Working with Grammy Award winning Producer/Songwriter Skidd Mills of Skiddco Music in Nashville, we will be releasing the first single from our upcoming EP - "Metric" on February 3rd.  In 2018, prior to joining the Skiddco Music Roster, we released a self-produced EP of early material.  We are excited to share how our sound has evolved with this new EP.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

See answers to #5.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently playing shows locally and regionally.  We really enjoy performances and connecting with listeners.  We are considering a possible tour on the near future.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We are very excited about our partnership with Skiddco Music and can’t wait for everyone to hear the new material.  We plan to play shows, hopefully build our fan base, and keep writing music.  We are musical brothers and indigo minds so the future looks promising.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We really enjoy creating music together and we want our listeners/audiences to feel that – to become part of what we are giving.  We put a lot of thought into what we write and want listeners to feel the honesty and - hopefully - make an emotional connection that will bring them back wanting more.
