Stone Sea Talks of Sharing and Growing as a Band with Music Creativity!
Heavy alternative rock band STONE SEA have released three pieces of content, their debut album "Orgins", followed by an EP "Vaporizer", with follow-up EP "Mankind Maze", with a handful of tracks depicting various styles of sound. The band talks much more, about themselves and the plans that lay ahead for them!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Stone Sea was started by Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso in Brazil in 2014. That lineup crafted the band's debut album 'Origins', recorded in full by Elvis and released in 2015. In 2015 Elvis moved to Ireland and reformed the band as a 3 piece, who then recorded the next two EPs Vaporizer (2017) and Mankind Maze (2019) which saw a change in the band's sound. In 2019 a line up change brought Jonathan Parminter (bass) and Connor Middleton (drums) to the band. A line up that is much more focused on the longevity of the band and the exploration of a breakthrough sound.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The bands name is comprised of two words that oppose each other completely. ‘Stone’ symbolizes inner strength and steadfast elements in our lives, and ‘Sea’ represents life’s ever-changing and dynamic nature. Our music reflects these ideas.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Originally Sau Paulo, Brazil, but since 2016 it's been based in Dublin, Ireland. The music scene definitely has a strong presence in our city, especially for heavy music. Most venues around Dublin will host Alternative, Rock and Metal gigs, so there's always something happening. Some bands that represent the Irish heavy music scene really well would be Grey Stag, Callous Crows, and Jailbirds. They're definitely bands that everyone should know about.
4. How would you describe your style?
At the core of our music are groove-orientated riffs, but we always look for ways to incorporate various different styles into our music. For example, 'Prelude' takes inspiration from the Bossa Nova style, which we hold close to our hearts as the band began in Brazil. But despite our sound being so broad and diverse, we are a heavy Alternative-Rock band at heart.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Stone Sea's debut album 'Origins' was released in 2015. In 2017 our EP 'Vaporizer' came out, which showed us move away from the raw and sludgier sound of 'Origins' and adopt a groovier, more optimistic sound.
Our most recent EP 'Mankind Maze' was our most experimental and ambitious release to date, with 'Prelude' sporting a Bossa Nova inspired sound, and 'Dream Song', which is our longest and most lysergic song to date.
Of course, 'Mankind Maze' wasn't all experimentation. 'Mystify' kept the groovy feel of the previous EP, while 'Seeing Red' sported a crushing riff and a heavier sound overall than the rest of 'Mankind Maze'.
If someone was to listen to any random Stone Sea song, the sound they would be met with could evoke a range of feelings, from happiness to sadness, rage to inertia.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We're currently working on a new album which we're hoping to release towards the end of this year. But don't worry, you won't have to wait that long for a new single or two.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We like to keep ourselves busy, this year we're hoping to make a name for ourselves not just outside Dublin, but outside Ireland too.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
WORLD DOMINATION. But all joking aside, we really want to grow as a band and share our music with more people. We'd love to play in new places with new bands to new people, and ultimately make a living from our music.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Everywhere! Our music is on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Deezer, everywhere you'd listen to music! You can buy our merch from our music glue site, but that's not as fun as going to the merch table at one of our gigs!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That they enjoyed it! Music is something you're supposed to be passionate about and enjoy, and we take pride in making music that people will enjoy and connect with.
