Hopout Discusses Content, Planning on New Stuff and More!
Rock trio HOPOUT have been writing and recording music together since just a few years ago. But since then, they have released an EP, along with more songs being written right now! More stuff is in the works, whilst the band continues to build upon what is already made since their formation. Discover what else the band had to discuss about music and more below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Hopout is comprised of Alex Gibson, Nick Zimmerman, and Tyler Raihl. We all began playing music at a young age, accumulating roughly fifty three years of musical experience between the three of us. Alex and Tyler met on a high school drum line, with Tyler meeting Nick toward the end of high school. The three of us began playing music together in 2013 and have been in multiple projects, with Hopout forming in the summer of 2016. From there we have released an EP and a full length album, as well as touring and supporting acts including Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Less than Jake, and The Toasters.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
There's a long story to that, suffice to say it is a joke at the expense of a bandmate from a prior project.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Pensacola Florida. The underground/rock scene here is very close knit and DIY, as pensacola is primarily a country and blues scene with mostly cover bands. Some standout local bands include Vagrants, Feed Lemon, Rise Up Lights, Brave New World, Glazed Eyes, and Luckily I’m the Hunter.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style would best be described as Alt Rock. We draw influence from jazz, prog, punk, metal, post hardcore, blues-really our sound is all over the place but somehow cohesive.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We released the EP “Hop into Hopout” in 2017 and we just released our full length “Some Assemble Acquired” in Jan 2020. The sound of “Hop into Hopout” is much more raw and punk inspired, where “Some Assembly Acquired” definitely has a more refined, mature sound.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes! While we are not planning on any full length releases anytime soon we are working on a few songs right now and the plan is to put them out as they’re finished.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Nothing set in stone but there is some stuff in there works. Follow our Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/hopouttheband/ for updates.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
For now our plan is to keep writing music and playing shows while building our online presence.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music is available on Spotify and most streaming services, and we have two music videos on our YouTube channel. We do sell merchandise at our shows, and we have plans to start an online store which will first be announced on our Instagram @hopout_theband.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
The name of the song so they can listen to it again!
