Sentinel Complex Discusses How to Figure Out the Plans Ahead with Music!
Metal go getters SENTINAL COMPLEX infused with aggression, modernized electronic elements with traditional concepts of orchestration, have released two album's, single's, with newer single's and an EP coming up soon. Figuring out what to do next, when it comes to shows and more music is all in the plans between now the rest of this year! Find out what more was discussed below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We started making music together for a few indie game/ film projects in 2014, and after some time and realizing we had a connection we started writing music for ourselves under our original name - Nova Prospect. In 2016 we re-branded under the name Sentinel Complex and have been honing our sound and style ever since.
2. What´s the origin of the band´s name?
This kind of follows on from the first point, we basically realized we couldn't use the name Nova Prospect without getting into some legal trouble so we thought we would change that as soon as possible! It took us a good few inspirational sessions to come up with the name Sentinel Complex, but we thought that this was the name that felt the most fitting with our vision for the band and the lore within our music.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based in the coastal town of Bournemouth at the very bottom of the UK, and the music scene around here is.. er.. lacking at best! Don't get me wrong we know a few great local acts around here but honestly other than a couple of venues there isn't really a whole lot ever going on down here. A lot of bands and artists - especially the younger ones - tend to claim Southampton or other south coast locations as their hometown because generally speaking they have a higher concentration of creative people. Personally, we recommend Miseria Hallows, Dresden or Deadshopboy$.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is basically designed around what we love most - cyberpunk and horror! Think Blade Runner meets mechanical Cloverfield with a sprinkling of War Of The Worlds. Our overarching lore essentially tells the story of a battle between man and machine, planet(s) defending themselves against a "higher power", and the religious aspects surrounding this. Neither of us are religious, we just find it a very interesting topic when it comes to dystonia and the future of man.
Our music started off as video game score, so you only have to listen to our early work to get an idea of the choices we made towards the end of the game-score life cycle.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released two studio albums and a number of singles, but honestly through a lot of these releases there was a lot of testing of what works and what doesn't when it comes to our band and it's sound. After learning a lot through our last few releases though we have really closed in on our goal.
As the huge metal fans that we love writing heavy riffs and drum beats but we incorporate a lot of electronic/industrial elements into our songs too. Sometimes they are even fully electronic, so if you like the mix of both you're sure to find something you'll like. We think 2020 though has a lot in store for fans and new listeners of ours. We dropped a new single called Demise Of The Faithful recently and that’s been one of our most well received original songs, so expect more grungy electronic industrial metal to come.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
For a start we are currently working on our newest project which we are really proud of, and we are going to be dropping singles on a regular basis this year and have a full EP planned too so keep your eyes out for that! We like to switch up our release methods every now and again to keep people on their toes, so expect to see more of us later this year once we have these tracks nice and polished.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Currently we aren't playing any shows. Having only two of us in the band, there's a lot of work! We do have plans to do some shows in the future though, there are just a few things that we have to figure out first. There’s a lot of things essential to a live show we need to organize before we can fully commit to live performances, but it is definitely on the agenda!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
The band started out as us just making music for fun, and that is really the main motive for us. We are always grateful for the fact that people actually like what we do and want more of it! We are working on getting new music out there at more of a consistent rate however which ties into what we are working on at the moment. Bigger things will be and currently are in the works, and shows and tours will hopefully become a reality in the future. We love working with other bands too and are always happy to do collab projects!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Basically any streaming service you can imagine, we are on there. So whatever your preference in that regard, go for it! Everything is also on our website over at www.sentinelcomplex.co.uk.
10. What is it you´d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
As a new listener, we would love for people to see the striking imagery, hear the sounds we have created and hopefully have it stick with them. Sometimes it can be hard for people to really get into what we do and we appreciate that, especially if they are into only one of the genre types we like to write rather than multiple. But we’d love for people to at least think it’s good music, regardless of the genre!
