Tradmrkd's Eddie Talks of Music, Plans and Way More to Come!
Alternative pop punk band TRADMRKD have released a handful of demo's with way more on the way! The summer time later this year, has more projects and some shows even lined-up! Guitarist Eddie Flinn does the talking about the band's music and plans.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band itself has been kicking about since 2014 but it was more of a mess around and us sounding horrific in our mates’ garage. I remember the first song we ever jammed to was Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols. Our friend kai, whose garage we were playing in, was on a 10 quid 2nd hand drum kick that changed tuning every time you hit it. I didn’t have an electric guitar, so I borrowed Kai’s Squire and Finlay was on Bass. It was fair to say we had Kai’s parents ripping their hair out. I was surprised we didn’t get complaints from his neighbors. We continued meeting up whenever we were bored. It was all about the enjoyment for us. At that moment in time we never had any ambitions on being an actual band. The band came serious in 2018 when Finlay and I decided that we wanted to see how far we could go with the band. So, we began to recruit. James Riddoch, our drummer, was the first to join us. Finlay knew him through college as they are both joiners. It looked like it we were going to be a three piece, until we bumped into and old school mate on a night out in Aberdeen. Corey Finnie, lead guitarist, was our final piece of the jigsaw. The current line-up has been playing together since the start of 2019. The best thing about the band is everyone is a Joiner except me; I am a politics student at Aberdeen Uni. Fun!!
We now moved mates house and are now playing in our friend Ryan Chalmers house. Who also records and mixes our demos. Got to give a shout out to him, he played a huge part in the band.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
I think it was Kai and Finlay that came up with the band’s name. We began as Trademark, till we discovered that there was an orchestral band with that name. We liked the name so much we decided to just add an ED at the end. But that looked too long so, we thought it would be hip and cool if we just have one vowel in the name. Thus, the birth of the name Tradmrkd. There is no meaning behind the name, we just though it sounded cool.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are all from little villages outside of Aberdeen in North East of Scotland between Fraserburgh and Peterhead, but we predominantly play in Aberdeen. The Music scene in Aberdeen is huge, I never realized how big it was till we were in it. There are plenty of venues to play. I would deffo recommend listening to Glass Monkey, Altered, Cherry Blossom, Virtues and Dude Trips. All great bands that are worth a listen.
4. How would you describe your style?
The best way to describe our style, especially of our current work, is very Green Day like. Many bands have influenced us but at this current moment in time our sound is similar to the east bay punk scene.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have only released 7 demos onto our SoundCloud. What could you expect? Catchy, dirty garage sounding punk!! We don’t have clean production finish it’s what you hear is what you get with us, a raw production of music. We are proof that you can do anything in your bedroom.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have so much music in our arsenal, so hopefully sooner rather than later we can release them. At this moment in time we have like 2 albums worth of music. That doesn’t mean any of them are good! Defiantly before 2020 is over, we will hopefully have much more songs for you guys to hear.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We have so much planned for this summer. We have projects with other bands in the works, some shows lined up. Not wanting to date this article; but all of this is now dependent on this little virus outbreak we have on our hands. Which sucks but we just have to get on with it. When this is all over, we will be playing as many shows as possible. No tours are planned just now but who knows what the future holds.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
To go as far as we can. Creating and playing music is all we want to do, no matter where it takes us. We plan on playing for as long as we can to as many people as we can. We dream big in this band; an EP release is our goal at the moment by either end of 2020 or in 2021.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We currently release our demos on SoundCloud; SoundCloud.com/tradmrkd. You can also follow us Instagram: Tradmrkd.tm. And also, Facebook: Tradrmkd. This is where we keep everyone up to date on song releases, new gigs and band updates. As of band merchandise, right now we do not have any merchandise to sell. We have some on the idea line but nothing yet ready to sell. However, if you like our Facebook page you will stay in the loop on merchandise update. It is definitely on our to do list to have some merchandise to sell.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That is a good question… For me I would love the listener to remember the impact of the lyrics. A song can have a great riff and groove and be destroyed by lazy lyrics. The tightness of the band would be another one I would like a listener to remember. As long as they enjoy it, I couldn’t care what they remember!
