Dark Agenda Discusses Music, Touring, and Wanting to Be Heard!

Dark, heavy melodic thrashers DARK AGENDA went on to release their self-titled EP not that long ago, with all new music also in the works. Besides that though, the band just wants to get their music out there, being able to make their music a way of life and hit the road on tour as well. What else did the band discuss see just below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band's mission is to take you for a heavy musical journey through the deepest abyss of your mind, body, and soul. Dark Agenda is a brotherhood and an ever-growing legion that acts as the voice of the voiceless.  We dare to be different, to think differently.  A world without darkness doesn't exist, although darkness is often overlooked. It is in this darkness that we find solace and belonging. We are its disciples, and we are delivering its message onto thee.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

In the beginning Jesse and Joshua brainstormed a lot of ideas and one day Dark Agenda came to mind and it just had a nice ring to it.  Considering we're all into the horror and some of the darker aspects of the world.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Our band is based mostly out of Anamosa but we claim Cedar Rapids because we're about 20 miles from there and most of us were born there.  The music scene there is somewhat died out throughout the years unfortunately and its over saturated with cover bands.  Its a very difficult scene there and isn't very supportive of original music. It's definitely a hard one to understand. It used to be an amazing scene with plenty of opportunity for both original bands and cover bands. With the COVID-19 situation the future locally is a bit uncertain in the Cedar Rapids scene.  However rather than getting discouraged by it we have booked shows and did real well in surrounding areas especially Iowa City.  We have a long list of local bands who are excellent bands that we really enjoy doing shows with.

4. How would you describe your style?

Our style is Dark, Heavy, Melodic, Thrashy and our own.  We kinda do our own thing and don't conform to others standards.  We enjoy this because our music appeals to a broader audience this way rather than simply niche groups. We liked to build our sound organically.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

In early 2019 we released our self titled EP with 7 tracks Alone, Will You See Me, Vampire, See You in Heaven, Outerskys, Genesis & Panic Attack.  With our music you can expect a rollercoaster of sound and lyrics that usually tells a story.  We cover a lot of Dark topics.  Our rhythm section is very synchronized and you can expect some addictive rhythms some heavy hitting drums. Jesse on the leads makes his guitar sing with some real soul piercing solos and he's always creating some heavy, dark beautiful stuff to listen to.  As far as vocals go you can usually expect some screams to wake the dead, melodic tones and raw raspy vocals.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have a lot of new music in the works and are looking to get back in the studio and keep them coming.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have one show as of now in August. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately 2020 has been a sad year for all musicians.  2019 was a great year and we did a lot of shows and we were hoping to keep that streak going this year but unfortunately this pandemic hit and kind put a halt to that.  We would love to do some mini tours and can't wait to get back out and do more shows.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We want to get our music out there to the world and be able to make music our life. We would like to tour the U.S. and eventually other countries.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our music is available on YouTube and all major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music & iTunes.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The energy that we put forth in our music, we want them to feel it and let it speak to them.
