Run To Vega Says Quite a Bit About Themselves and Music!
Alternative rockers RUN TO VEGA have a self-titled EP out and about, with another EP expected this summer! After this, they will head out to do shows when the time is right! Find out just what more had to be said from the band right below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band formed in March 2016. Kev and Sye had been working on ideas for a few years previous and decided to officially form a band after meeting some like minded friends which were a good fit. Since then we have changed line up a couple of times and our members are now Kev Coronel- Guitar/ Vocals, Sye Christian- Lead guitar/ Backing vocals, Ruari McGrath- Bass Guitar, and Isaac Barnes- Drums/ Backing vocals. Our sound has evolved a lot over the years. We’ve been focussing on refining more recently and developing more dynamics.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name has various meanings behind it, some of which are in reference to the star Vega and also an old Chinese folk tale.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based in Aberdeen, Scotland and the music scene here is very active and also very eclectic which is great. We like many of the local bands but one that sticks out in our mind is Dude Trips and also Towards Light, which is our drummer Isaac’s band.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style has been varied but is rooted in alternative indie rock. Some of the bands we’ve been compared to at times are The Pixies, The Cure, Black Midi, Kings of Leon… All of which are bands we really like.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We released our first EP - Run To Vega last year. It’s vibe was very energetic and passionate. Some surf rock elements and soulful melodies mixed with indie rock. Since then we have released 2 singles. Riding Hood which was a darker take on the folk tale. And Limousine, a feel good indie tune we released last summer.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Our next 3 track EP Twilight Tides will be hitting stores the 1st of July. It’s a moody and heavier tone than most of our previous works. With plenty of distortion and energy for fans to dig into. The music video will be a fun and quirky accompaniment to the music using a mix of action figure animation and acting to portray the song in a lighthearted way. A thread of nostalgia runs throughout the song with the use of action figures and household items reflecting many of the lyrics.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Currently we’re focused on the releases and online presence due to the lockdown but we’re booked to headline this year's Fudge Awards. The event takes place at one of the main venues in Aberdeen, Krakatoa. A very supportive place that has hosted many local and global bands over the years.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We’d love to get back out playing gigs once possible and we’ll be working on more releases. We’ve got no lack of ideas and a big repertoire that we’ll be continuing to develop and record going forward. We also like to put a lot of effort into our music videos so our fans will have lots of content to look out for and consume alongside our releases.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We’re available on most of the usual platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, YouTube, Soundcloud, etc. We also have some limited runs of our first EP left which are currently only available to buy directly from us. We may try to get some of these out to the fans by running a competition on Facebook.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
The songs have strong and catchy melodies that we hope will be enjoyable from the first listen. If you
delve a bit deeper, you'll find some real emotions being dealt with. The songs tell definite stories but ones that are pretty cryptic at times. And that can be great for people to identify with in whatever form that really speaks most to them or listen to them in the context of whatever is going on in their own lives. They’re also pretty fun to just enjoy and go on a journey with. Our sound is constantly developing but we love everything we’ve released and hopefully people can enjoy the music and get something out of it too.
