Starving Hands Expresses Horizontal Extensions with Music and More!
When drummer Alex and vocalist Henk had met, numerous projects would commence, but it wouldn't be til the fall of 2019, that the likeness of STARVING HANDS would start up, combining the styles of dark, aggressive, progressive, brutalizing and melodic as well as others to create just the right styling made for them. With this they would go on to release a debut single, with them hard at work currently upon their first ever EP! See what else the band had to express about themselves and the music right below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
At the moment we are just two young men trying to find our own unique sound. Alex is our drummer and I am Henk the vocalist. We met 2015 via Facebook looking for musicians and since the first moment we knew that we totally fit together. We listened to the same bands like Norma Jean, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and many more. With time passing by we decided several times to break up and develop our skills as musicians in different projects but we always found back together with an extended horizon and held the contact. Then on October 2019 we met again in the first serious project Alex founded at the beginning of the year and this was the start of Starving Hands.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
We thought about a name that describes the attitude in our lives and our work as a musician. We both want to put everything we can offer in our hobby. Sometimes it is hard and you have to try out something you never did before. This leads to difficulties that we describe as a cramp. Something like you hurt yourself to achieve a new level or higher goals. We think of spend money and learning new stuff in this case. And this describes our attitude to make music and also in our lives. We just want to develop and grow with defiance and train ourselves to handle situations in which our hands begin to starve.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Alex and me grew up in Recklinghausen, NRW in Germany and we still are living here. Our rehearsal room is in Herne, NRW. There are many rooms and bands like Any Given Day are practicing here, too. At the moment the music scene in Germany is filled with a lot of modern metalcore and melodic hardcore acts. Unfortunately we can't identify with those bands because we are not really that mainstream dudes. We wish to hear from bands in the style of Reflections or Loathe. But this scene is not really present right here. But however, to recommend a local band we really like we can name Neberu. Those guys make magnificent music and we really like there sound. But that's it.
4. How would you describe your style?
Dark, aggressive, progressive, brutal, melodic and atmospheric.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have just released our debut single "Faceless” on YouTube via Spaceuntravel on 30th May and our track will be also available on Spotify soon. We recorded the instrumentals ourselves and produced our music video caused by corona, too. This is the origin of the the rough sound in FACELESS. Moreover we needed help with the record of the voice from Heckules Studio and let the track get mixed by Embark Audio. In the future you can expect more professional workout in our sound because we will work more closely with the studios I just named.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?
At the moment, we work on our first EP with the focus on developing our own unique sound. We will come out with eight tracks which will invite you into a dark, aggressive and melodic atmosphere within a progressive contrast of more brutality and a greater amount of touching clean parts to sing along.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Unfortunately we can't plan shows or tours caused by the fact that we are only a two men show. But we can use this moment to work properly on our upcoming EP and make the best out of it. Moreover we are looking out for musicians at our guitar and bass to complete our band outfit soon.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We are looking forward to start playing shows at the end of the year or 2021 and are really stoked to get the feedback on our music with the release of our first EP. Before that we are just concentrating on our works now and putting all energy we’ve got into this project.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
These things will come along in the future. For the moment “faceless” is in validation to go online on Spotify soon and our merch will be available with our upcoming EP. Information according to these aspects will follow in time via Instagram and Facebook.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That is a very good question we never asked ourselves before. We just make music that touches us. Alex is the songwriter in our constellation and he can create very emotional atmospheres that is inspiring me as the lyricist. I felt frustration and aggression in the track faceless and picked it up in my words. If we ask ourselves this question we just can say let it be and get inspired by our sound. The only thing we can say to this point is that we always think in a very critical way according to the actual global situation. Maybe the listener should remember that.
