The Jailbirds Tells Us to CRANK IT UP!
Hard rockers THE JAILBIRDS have a couple of EP releases out there, along with some single's too. Writing and recording is always an occurrence, with them wanting to play live shows as soon as possible! However the band goes into chat about the current situation, besides their music of course.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Our band was created when Liam (bass) and Myke (vocals/guitar) were rearranging the group. We had been playing together for a few years under another name, and when the sound started to change (from more modern heavy metal to more of a classic rock/grungy rock vibe) we ultimately decided to change the name as well. During that process, the band lost members, but we quickly sought out a new drummer and keyboard player. We found Eric on an online ad, as well as a keys player, and in the beginning stages of rehearsing for our debut, we lost our keyboard player and 2nd guitarist. We moved on as a 3 piece band from that moment, and went in to record our debut EP (The Black River) and have been this way ever since!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Liam was dreaming one night, of the 3 of us in the wild west, during the 1800’s. He pictured us robbing a train, red dead redemption kind of vibe (a favorite game of ours). When we were thrown in jail, he saw a sheriff walk by and mention to the guard, “there’s The Jailbirds right there” and he woke up! wrote it down in his notebook, and circled it 5 or 6 times. The next day he sent us the idea for our band name, and we loved it.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Our music scene is strong with a lot of awesome rock n roll bands, bands of any genre for that matter, and in our little circle we all have our own things going on in terms of style and sound, and it’s a wonder to be a part of. There’s a lot of love and support with our friends’ bands an us, and it really does create a better music scene for everyone when people work together. Definitely recommend checking out Crown Lands, Revive The Rose, Drop Top Alibi, Excuses Excuses, Double Experience, Roadwolves, there’s so many wicked bands from southern ON! Follow any of them on Spotify and you’ll be able to find every band in our scene via the “fans also listen to” section.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is a mix of inspiration from a lot of different rock eras. We are fans of a lot of different types of music, not just rock, and that plays a huge part in our style and sound. I would describe the sound as grunge meets classic rock meets 70’s/80’s hard rock. We also like funk, blues, soul, new wave, lots of stuff like that.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far, we have released one EP (The Black River) and one single (Watery Grave) from our forthcoming EP. Our next single from that record will be released August 3rd, called Dull My Brain.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are always writing and recording new music/ideas. Lets just say we have the next few records in the works at all times, it’s just a matter of releasing it the way we want to.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Right now with Covid-19, our shows have been mostly cancelled. However, we will be playing a social-distance outdoor festival near Kingston, ON on Sept 12th! We hope to get back on the road soon, when it is safe to do so. We live for playing shows!!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We plan on making as much music as possible, playing as many shows as we can and in as many regions as we can! We have another 6 songs banked (recorded and all) for later, excluding our upcoming release of 5 tracks. Very excited to start releasing more music!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can find all of our links on our website at: www.thejailbirds.com. Find us on Spotify and Apple Music, and we will have our merch store on our website in August 2020.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Remember to CRANK IT TO 11! =)
