Canadian singing, song writing, producer of an artist ALEX PRICE wants to portray the experiences and influences through the art of music. He loves talking about love and the trials and tribulations that it contains within. His styling blends the likes of smooth R&B, pop, dance, and hip hop. It depends upon how he feels day to day. In fact, he has even released a new single "Love in L.A." with even more all new content in the works! Alex himself goes into saying lots more about his start and where he wants it all to go next.
1. Can you introduce yourself to our audience please?
My name is Alex Price. I am a multi instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
2. What is the concept behind Alex Price?
I wouldn't say that there is a concept. I am just a normal person portraying real experiences or influences through the art of music. I love to talk about Love and the trials and tribulations that come with it.
3. Which part of the production would you say you specialize in and why?
I definitely specialize in the structuring and songwriting of my songs as well as rhythms and melodies. My strongest instrument I play is guitar so that would be my specialty instrument of choice. I do work with many musicians and songwriters as well which I love because I am always learning from them.
4. What genres of music do you create?
I feel like my musical style is just a blend of all my music influences in one. Some songs are more smooth R&B, some songs are more Pop and dancy, and some more Hip-Hop. It really depends how I feel that day in the studio.
5. What made you want to start this artistic journey known as Alex Price?
I think the main thing that encouraged me to start on this musical journey as Alex Price, was my love for making something from nothing. I love the fact that you can sit in a room with barely even an idea and at the end of the day have a whole song and piece of music. There is something so fascinating about that. Also being able to perform at a young age made me fall in love with the live aspect of being an artist and being able to noticeably change people's moods instantly. The fact that someone may have had the worst day ever and then listens to my song or sees my show and instantly changes that around. I am so in love with that.
6. What kind of music do you often listen to?
I literally listen to all kinds of music. Most often I find myself listening to Hip-Hop/R&B from old to new, but also classic funk, jazz and rock. I also love finding new music that I may not have explored before.
7. Who would you say are some of your biggest musical influences?
Since my influence is so wide from genre to genre, it is hard to pinpoint all my musical influences. Some however would be: Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Drake, Kanye West, John Mayer, Usher, Donell Jones, Ginuwine and many more!
8. What is your writing and recording process like?
Although I do a fair bit of my music on my own, I also love collaborating with other producers, musicians and writers. I think I actually enjoy that process more. I like it best when we are all in the same room and build on an idea together. That feels the most natural. Sometimes it is sitting in the room with another producer and building a song together from scratch, or they have ideas already created and we build off that.
9. What about your latest release "Love in L.A." can you talk about that a bit for us?
I had been playing the guitar chords for a while. My first trip to LA I was sitting with my boy who I do a lot of writing with and we came up with the melody for the chorus. I knew the riff embodied the vibe of how I felt while in LA. So the " love in LA (ou la la la la la)" came about pretty quickly. I had also met a really fine girl when I was there and that turned into my muse basically for the verses in song. I love when songs practically write themselves!
10. Is there any significance behind why you wanted to call you as an artist named after you?
Nothing super significant about it, just something that seems honest and relatable about a normal first and last name.
11. Besides "Love in L.A." do you have any other newer material in the works?
Of course!! My hard drive is literally packed up with so much new material. Always working on new music as well as finishing parts of old ideas that have been stashed away.
12. What else do you have in-store for the remainder of this year into the next year?
Currently I am working on another EP for the Jan/Feb time frame. I have just released a 7 song EP called "Hopeless Romantic" back in September and since then have been releasing a song every week across all platforms.
13. Lastly, can you send a message to your fans old and new?
Just that I appreciate anyone that takes the time to listen to my music and I am not going to stop feeding them good quality music!
