Early 90's sounding band SUBLIMINAL LANDMINES have captured the essence of the past, to create a style that is familiar yet fresh. They have an array of content out currently, with the band writing all new music to be released sometime in the future. Like many bands this one hopes to head out and play shows once the time permits, otherwise they plan to just make more music as it see's fitting to them. The band goes into chatter about all of this and then some.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We started in 2017 from Grant going around Lafayette posting fliers for a drummer and a bassist needed for a punk band. Found both and went for a solid year after and released a demo album. After that the original bassist, Eric, left and moved to Portland, Oregon and Tony had to leave because of personal reasons. Found a new bassist (Tucker) and new drummer (Lee) and wrote a new EP and played shows throughout 2019 and then Tucker left because of personal reasons so then we had to find another bassist. It hit Lee and Grant pretty hard but then Chris came around and we spent the year writing recording, and releasing our first full length album because we couldn't play any shows this year (Covid-19). All 3 of us have been playing instruments since we were young and now that we are older, we still love to do it and get involved with our fans. We know we aren't the best but we all just want to have fun and make music that people want to hear.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
So the band name originated in the many vast thoughts that your mind goes through when trying to think of a band name. So Grant always writes songs with a message in it, so that's where the Subliminal part comes into play. Our goal is to blow everyone's mind with our messages and our music so that's where the Landmines part kicks in. Put both of them together and you get Subliminal Landmines.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Lafayette, Louisiana in the United States and the music scene down here is mainly hardcore metal or very cajun and indie music. It's definitely not the city for Punk music even though we originated here but that can change! If there were any bands that I would recommend from this area it would have to be Ole English and The Posts. They both kick some major ass.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style is more like an early 90's grunge/skate punk sound. We get compared a lot to early 90's Green Day or even Rancid which is pretty accurate considering who our influences are.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far, we have a Self Recorded demo, an Ep, and a full length studio album out right now. The quality of the self recorded demo isn't the greatest but when you listen to the EP and the album, get ready to get your mind racing and rock the fuck out. Some of the songs can get emotional but for the most part we like to throw down and get crazy and it shows through our songs.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Currently Grant and Chris are writing new music on their own time and we plan to record it at some point but we just released a full length album so we plan to promote it and play it throughout the states next year. We do plan on maybe releasing an EP sometime next year though. (;
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
When it comes to tours and shows, Covid-19 kind of ruined that for us but it gave us a chance to write the album. Next year we plan to tour throughout some of the states where we can get a gig scheduled depending on the rules and laws bars and venues have because of the virus.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
When it comes to the future as a band, we just plan to make more music, play more shows, sell more merch and help everyone realize one step at a time that it's ok to do what you love and be yourself, It doesn't matter what people think. We don't plan to separate or slow down anytime soon.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music is available for streaming on Spotify, Deezer, and YouTube. And you can purchase it on Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Reverbnation (and etc).
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
If we had to choose what people remembered the most when hearing our music for the first time, it would have to be the nostalgia behind it. Take them back to the past when things were more simple and new. Not necessarily be the same but give them the old school vibe that we all grew up on and get them back listening to the type of music that they used to. Life is stressful these days and we all know we love to reminisce on the goode ole days.
