Jazz pop act BOBBY MC has been around for some time, releasing an upcoming single titled "Try a Little Tenderness" out soon enough with more music to follow in the summer time. Bobby MC himself goes into talks about this track and how this all came together.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band started back in 2017. I started playing professionally at 18, doing a solo show around Dublin. I then made the decision to start my own band called Bobby Mc and The Dukes. The band in the past has had permanent members in John Mc Gowan on Double Bass, Jamie Reynolds on drums, Tiernan Buckley on Guitar and Chris Turner on Tenor Saxophone and flute. Our main two piano players are two of the best in the country in Shane O’Connor and Leopoldo Osio. We have also had many other great piano players step in and play with us at different gigs. Unfortunately due to COVID, some of the members can no longer be permanent but I look forward to working with many new musicians in 2021.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Bobby Mc is a version of my real name Bob Mc Quaid. The Dukes part came along because although I am a an artist in my own right, I wanted my band to have its own name. I got inspiration from one of my favorite soul artists “Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Dublin and Co. Meath Ireland. The music scene is pretty good in Ireland at the minute, we’re producing some good artists. I would say in my genre, the venues are limited but the demand from the public is there. Zaska and JJ Bloom are two local artists that I would I recommend.
4. How would you describe your style?
I would describe my vocal style as smooth with a warm low tone. My music is best described as Jazz Pop, clever arrangements with a clean and clear vocal.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
I’ve not released anything yet, ‘Try a little tenderness’ will be my first release on January 29th. They can expect classic tunes reinvented with a modern twist but with a tip of the hat to the era and style the song was originally released in.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
As I said, my debut single will be at the end of the month but I hope to have some new music by the summer.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Nothing planned yet just due to COVID but I hope to be back playing some shows towards the end of this year and definitely into 2022.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
As an artist, I hope to release a few singles in 2021 with the plan to gig next year and work on some original music for the future.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can check my music out on all the usual platforms and you can buy my single on my new website https://www.facebook.com/BobbyMcMusic.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I’d love for them to like the tone of my voice and the new classy arrangement of an old song.
