Punk rock rockabilly JON CRABB likes these genres at hand, but also likes play different music styles in general. An array of EP's have been released with an upcoming EP with assorted content. Jon wants to keep releasing music and just to keep chasing that music dream. He Jon himself talks about his career path as a musician and more.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members:
At college on my music course, I played in sorts of groups, but I formed a blues-rock trio in college called ‘CrabbClaw’ which only lasted for about year, and we split because of our clash of creative differences. I was in a punk/new wave band called The Rioters which I helped form with other musicians living in South East London, and played for four years. It was the longest I had been in any band before. I was also in a surf/psychobilly band called Death Valley Sufers for a few months, but quit because I was being treated too much like a background member. Right now I perform part-time in a three piece punk band called Pistolhead and a Ramones tribute band called Morones. I am currently working as a solo artist and on the search for a brand new group to help form.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Just my birth name really, except I shortened my first name to simply “Jon”. I get called ‘Crab City Rocker’ by some other people, because they know I love the band; The Clash, but I don’t mind what anyone calls me, so I just use my birth and nickname.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
I am from South West London, born and raised and I still live here. I’ve never often seen many groups perform in my local area, so I usually travel up to North London where the music mostly happens around near Camden Town, and I have seen so many great bands perform. Local bands I recommend checking out when they’re around are Healthy Junkies, The Blue Carpet Band, Nuffin, Hawxx, PollyPikPocketz and Bite Me.
4. How would you describe your style?
It’s punk mixed with rockabilly, but I sometimes like to play in different music styles the same way The Clash did with “London Calling”.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
I have self-released up to sixteen EPs online within the last couple years. I recon listeners can expect either getting a groove from when it’s good old vintage rock ‘n’ roll, or head-bang whenever it’s in-your-face ‘punk’.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
I have a new upcoming EP featuring remasters of previous songs that will be out on February 5th (it’s available for pre-order on Bandcamp) and am currently working and putting together two new albums for later this year.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
I am more than desperate to get back playing live and touring when this pandemic lifts. I plan to hopefully form a new band, a rockabilly trio like The Stray Cats and hopefully go on the road for a UK tour, and then perhaps one day in Europe.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Never stop playing and chase the music dream.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to my music on all platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, YouTube, etc) and I have just recently set up a profile on Bandcamp, where my newest upcoming EP is available for pre-order.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
No matter how much of a bad or stressful time you’re going through, there will always be music to listen, entertain and speak to for everyone.
