Progressive metal rockers CYNIC CULT have a current single with way more music in the works right now! They plan on just making music, playing shows soon enough with so much more in-store. A couple of the band got together to talk about their music and where to find out more about them!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Shay: Cynic cult really only became an official thing last summer. I had been writing and recording a lot of demos over the last couple of years and felt it was the right time to turn it into something more serious. Just a few months after that Tommy came in to give it another boost with his vocals and the both of us have formed a very strong partnership since.
Before starting Cynic cult I was a founding member and front man for the band Marabou for about seven or eight years and Tommy was a vocalist with I'd fight Gandhi and is also the vocalist in The Grudge, who are a top class Tool tribute band.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Shay: It started off as the title of a song that was based on the kind of people who think just because they run a page on social media (yet have never been in a band or probably can't even hold an instrument) they somehow have a say over what local band is cool and deserves attention and what band does not, same with the odd promoter. Sarcasm led me to use it for the name of the band instead.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Shay: I'm based down in the south of Ireland in Co.Cork and Tommy is higher up the country in Co. Monaghan. The music scene here (covid aside) is really good, there are a shitload of good bands in Ireland, and there are some awesome event organizers and podcasters that give massive support for the bands and fans too. Some bands definitely worth checking out, Restive nation, God Alone, Partholón and Ren Marabou to name a few, but honestly there are loads.
4. How would you describe your style?
Tommy: Our sound is a nice mix of progressive rock and metal, with a mixture of melodic and harsh vocals.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Shay: Our main release so far is a single called Intimator, and there is also a softer track out there called Return of the son. I'm not really sure what anyone can expect just yet, to be honest we are still not entirely sure ourselves.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Shay: We have a lot of music in the works right now. There is a single we will be releasing in a few weeks, and that will be followed up with an EP. I have at least another twenty songs that just need some vocals and other bits to finish them off, so we will be keeping busy releasing them for sure.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Tommy: Once covid restrictions are lifted, gigs would be welcomed!
Shay: They definitely would! When the set is ready to go, it's on!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Shay: Cheesy as it sounds, we just plan to keep doing what we love, making music.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Tommy: You can find our music on Spotify, bandcamp, Facebook and YouTube.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Tommy: I want the listener to know and remember that we mean every word.
