Rockstars THE BLOODSHOTS have been together for sometime now, releasing content over said time, with plans to release either an all new EP or album. The band discusses the new material, old material, and what's next for them.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We came together in 2013. I had a handful of songs that I had written and when Keith and I (C.J) got together the songs just came to us. We added our drummer Jared Masters a few years later as a permanent member. As the success kept growing, we ended up getting onto a few big high profile shows with bands like Finger 11, Danko Jones, and SLASH just to name a few. These opened more windows for us. We've never stopped grinding In this band. Hard work trumps all.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
It's actually a decent story. I had just left my previous band to work on some original ideas no ideas and I had add a riff in my head that would not go away, (it turned out being our 2020 single "no way out") I was laying in bed with that rift bouncing around my brain. So I got up and went to the living room with an acoustic guitar and sat there until I had the idea down. Then when I walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, I must have blown a blood vessel in one of my eyes because they were completely bloodshot red. And a name was born.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Winnipeg Manitoba which is right in the middle of Canada. Not many acts make it from here. But the ones that do make it, make it for good reason.
4. How would you describe your style?
I would say that our influences for our sound draw mostly from the nineties. Grunge, punk rock. But we also love classic rock! And I think aspects of it all come out in the music. I do most of the writing but but no matter what I do or what Keith writes and brings to the table when we put it together it always comes out sounding like bloodshots.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
In 2015 we released a self titled six song EP which sold out of copies. You can find the video for our single "Gettin Around" from it on YouTube. And in years after we've put out a single almost each year. We have a single called "Kill Me Tonight" which you can find on YouTube as well as a short documentary about recording the tune. We have 3 singles on our streaming platforms (spotify/Apple music etc), one being our most recent release, a cover of CCRs "Bad Moon Rising", and the older songs can be found on SoundCloud.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We actually have studio time booked at the end of November and we want to record either a 6 song EP or a full length. And hopefully have it out in 2022 on Golden Robot Records.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Shows have obviously been weird with covid 19 but every time restrictions lightened and we could get out we did what we could. We are playing some shows with Buckcherry in a few weeks and then we have a big Hometown show in Winnipeg November 26th that is almost sold out.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
One of our main goals is to come and tour the UK. It's our music that has always been well received there and it is just on our bucket list. Now we just need this virus to go away, for the world to get back to as normal as possible, so that we can get over that pond!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can find our tunes anywhere you stream! YouTube has a few more options with some previously unreleased songs etc. Our website bloodshotsmusic.com will be updated with new merch in the coming months! Also check out www.goldenrobotrecords.com/thebloodshots as well.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We've heard things like our music getting people through hard times etc and I think as an artist there's no other higher compliment than that. We like for fans to hear the music and interpret it in whatever way they want/need. Music heals and we are just doing what we love.
