LLYN Y CWN is a project of sorts, that has released three albums, this third one coming up really soon. This band discusses this project in all of it's detail.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Ben Powell has been making electronic music for over 25 years, drawing inspiration from his native North Wales landscape and his participation on Arctic research cruises.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Llyn Y Cwn (Welsh - lake of the dogs) is a small lake at 715m in the Glyder mountain range of Snowdoina, North Wales.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Based in Menai Bridge on the isle of Anglesey, there is small but a varied local scene, this is the hometown of Lustmord so there is a history of dark ambient in the area.
4. How would you describe your style?
Llyn Y Cwn is a field recording based dark ambient project with focus on atmosphere and environment.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
I’m about to release the third full length album on Cold Spring Records, each album has had a unique identity and theme. Twll Du was based on the Idwal valley, Dinorwic was based on a slate quarry, Du Y Moroedd is based on the ocean, I try to convey the atmosphere of an environment through sound.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
The project I’m currently working on is based on stone circles. I'm travelling around the country collecting field recordings at ancient sites around the UK. It has already been ongoing for a couple of years.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
I don’t play live often but I think there will be a few gigs to support the new album, I have made a full length video to accompany the album, this will be shown at the gigs.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
I hope to be able to continue to have my music released, a long term ambition would be to get into soundtracks.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
bandcamp, or Cold Spring
