Rock n' rollers COMA TWINS who have their debut self-titled album out, with an all new follow-up sophomore album out this spring! The band discusses these releases and more below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band formed originally in mid 2013 as just myself(Jason Paul) and Sean Cole. At first it was an acoustic side project for us. We played a few shows a year as a duo. In 2018, Sean and I gathered some local players to do a full band tour up the west coast of the U.S. to Seattle and back to LA. After that lineup came and went we feel like we’ve solidified our lineup as of early 2020- the players are Sean Cole(guitar, vocals), Jason Paul(guitar, vocals), Michael Espinoza(bass), Ryan Davidson(drums)
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name spawned from a band that Sean was in before I moved to San Pedro. He was playing with a mutual friend of ours, Jack Doyle. They played cover songs under the name Christy Twins. Once I joined forces with Sean we started writing a lot of music together very quickly. It was evident that we needed to get something rolling with our own identity and after not much pondering we came up with Coma Twins. We thought it looked and sounded perfect for us.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We hail from San Pedro, CA. It’s the harbor town of Los Angeles. The scene is a tight nit community. There are so many great local bands. Some you may have heard of and some you should know. Most notably of course are The Minutemen, Saccharine Trust, FYP, and Toys That Kill.
4. How would you describe your style?
Oh boy, I usually tell the normal folk that we’re a “rock n roll” band. But we definitely have a folk and psychedelic element that we love to vibe on. There are no limits.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far we’ve released one full length album we call “Self Titled”. It’s got all the elements of a full band, but Sean and I recorded everything.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have a brand new album coming out on March 11th called “Too Tired For Hell”. It’s twelve songs and the new lineup is on the whole damn thing. We’re very exited about it!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
For sure! We’re actually heading out on an east coast tour in a couple of weeks. Covering the midwest, east coast, and some southern states.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Well, we’re always writing. So a new album will definitely be in the works soon. And we plan to tour, tour, tour!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can find our music on all the streaming platforms including band camp of course. That’s where we prefer our online listeners to convene. We’ll have CD’s of “Too Tired For Hell” available on there as well. And hopefully some vinyl soon!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
To rinse and repeat!
