Unique and creative artist TAKAR NABAM has an EP and a couple of album's out with new music in the works right now! He himself does go into discussion about his music, and plans for touring as well.
1. Please tell us about your history.
I'm a metal head who turned into a singer songwriter, composer, as I grew older. From opening for Metallica with my Metal band 'Guillotine' to playing some of the most quitest gigs, it has been an interesting journey, full of surprises, which I believe comes out in my music.
My first connection up music was through t guitar, which my dad bought for me at the age of 12. There was one condition though, I couldn't let me academics take a back seat, which is very typical of parents here in India.
I was self taught for the most part but I also got a few months at a Music School, which taught me a great deal about Jazz Music, Ensemble playing, improvisation. It was at this point I felt I could express myself much better through my words, my voice and the guitar skills I had developed over the years.
2. What’s the origin of your name?
My name is Takar, which means Star in the Nyishi dialect of Arunachal Pradesh, India. So basically I'm always trying to live up to my name, but I've quite miserably so far! Haha in our Nyishi tribe, Takar is quite a common name.
3. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local artists you could recommend?
I'm currently based out of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, which is the Eastern most State of India. It is strategically quite an important state as it borders China, Bhutan and Myanmar.
There's a heavy influence of Bollywood Music here, but because of Artists like David Angu, Taba Chake, Toko Teji, Yesterdrive, Chorun Mugli, Nisham Pul, Haggai Rongmei, Dambi Jini, Carolina Norbu, to name a few, and AIMF (Arunachal Independent Musicians Forum), the Indie Music scene has become quite vibrant here. We still have a long way to go though.
4. How would you describe your style?
If my music was a salad, it would take some time to chew it. I don't like playing the same thing over and over again, and I'm always looking for ways to best present my craft.
I think you could call my music dreamy and mellow with a few highs here and there. I enjoy RnB, Soul, Old school Funk, Alt Rock, Jazz, Singer songwriters, to name a few.
