Being a band for not that long, DELPHI RAVENS is an alternative rock n' roll force not meant to be messed with. That said, they have a handful of tracks out, with much more in the works and expected out soon enough! The band discusses their time together and music as well.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Delphi Ravens were founded in late 2019 by bassist, long time ASCAP member, and lead songwriter Papa B.™ Vocalist Kira delivers her dynamic vocals and co-writes many of the songs with Papa B. Other band members include former touring pros with experience in several bands each.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name is a combination of 2 ideas: the ‘Delphi’ comes from the Oracle of Delphi and Greek history. The Oracle was considered the ultimate source of knowledge and was the “go-to” person for even the great sages like Plato or Socrates. The ‘Raven’ comes from the idea of the 3-eyed raven, as used in Game of Thrones for one, that can ‘see’ possible future events. So, it is a combo of knowledge and future vision.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band comes from the Pacific Northwest (U.S.) with its rich history of breakthrough music. The band is based in southern Oregon near the California border in an area called the Rogue Valley.
Most of the bands in our area are cover bands and we are one of a few original music creators and definitely the most productive band in our area, maybe the entire region. The band continues to be ranked the #1 alternative rock in all the Pacific Northwest U.S. by ReverbNation (this includes 4 states and half of a fifth one).
4. How would you describe your style?
Our band is very eclectic with members having played everything from metal, hard rock, alternative rock, jazz, country/blues, and even orchestral. We always ‘serve the song’ but these various influences come out in our songs. Reviewers have called us an alt/rock fusion band.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released 7 original tracks in the past year and just recorded and mixed 4 more. Next release is June 10th. Four of these tracks hit one or more charts upon release and MTV Rock named us an Artist of the Month as well. We are now working with New Age, part of The Orchard and Sony Music. They are handling our next 3 releases.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have 4-5 more new songs that we’ve been working on and expect to be recording in studio soon. We are always writing new music. Papa B.™ has over 50 song lyrics written and usually 5-6 new song ideas musically. He writes most of the music for all the songs except the melodies which lead vocalist Kira writes. Lyrics are written by both Papa B.™ and Kira.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
During COVID the band focused on writing and recording and did not play any gigs. As the pandemic has slowed the band performed a private performance for followers and fans that was a big hit. The band is now accepting bookings for late summer and fall of 2022 and will continue to play live events thereafter. We have 3 bookings already locked in for late summer. No tours are planned for the rest of 2022.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Delphi Ravens will continue to write and record and mix and do select live gigs. This year we plan to release our first EP and in 2023 our first album will come out. It is quite possible we will do a short tour after the album release.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Our music is on all streaming platforms, but you can also listen and buy our music on the Home page of our website https://delphiravens.com and buy our merchandise there and have it shipped anywhere in the world. We are also active on most social media platforms including:
https://www.facebook.com/delphiravens
https://www.youtube.com/c/delphiravens
https://instagram.com/delphiravens
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We have a mix of emotionally driven songs. Many of our songs are darker in nature like Delphi Raven, Phobia, Skeletons, and so on. Our top charted song, Hardest Goodbye, is about losing someone you love deeply and struggling to adapt after the loss. How Wrong You Were was called the ultimate eff-U to a former lover by one reviewer. We do have a ‘hoping for love’ song, Take My Hand, that is part of our next releases.
Anger, love, fear, insomnia, hidden messages, wonder, sadness, excitement, and feeling lost are just a few of the emotions/feelings we feature in our music. We want listeners to feel the emotions we are performing and leave with one or more of them in their thoughts while also loving the performance itself!
