Rock band THE GRYM SINS have been a band for a while, releasing a few single's actually. They even have quite the amount of all new music ready to go! The band talks of shows and music.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
We originally started as a cover band. Billy (guitarist) and I were in an older cover band before splintering off and forming what would eventually be The Grym Sins. We picked up our bassist Daniel soon after and went through a few drummers before landing on John, who joined this past July. In the early days we were still somewhat a cover band, but we really started getting creative when COVID hit. We started writing a lot of music and released our first two songs around this time last year. Now we’re playing full sets of our own stuff and constantly adding more to the list.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
In the early days, when we were still a cover band, we were called Krymzen. When COVID hit, we sat down together and decided what direction we were going to go with the band. We made the decision to rebrand our name and release some of the material we had been working on. We separated Krymzen into two words, and at the suggestion of a close friend to change the K to a G we eventually came up with the name as it’s seen now, The Grym Sins.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We come from the Mountain State of West Virginia, specifically Morgantown. Before moving to Morgantown, we were all sort of spread out across the state, but are now mostly in the same area. The music scene here in WV is honestly pretty insane. Some of the bands that this state has produced have made it into my top 5 favorite bands of all time and constantly inspire me in my own songwriting. Bands like Ducain, The Lonely Ones, and a band we’ve frequently played with called Truckstop are all amazing artists and are a lot of fun to listen and jam to.
4. How would you describe your style?
Ah, the tough question. Personally, I’d say our style blends together rock sounds from every decade, mixing 70s classic rock sounds and grooves with 90s grunge-era heavy and, well, grungy tones. Each member has vastly different music tastes and artists that inspire us, so we really get a mix of different styles when we write music. We’re also greatly inspired by a lot of modern bands like Rival Sons and Dirty Honey, so I’d say our style is in the same vein as a lot of hard rock and Zeppelin-inspired bands.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have a few singles out right now! This time last year we released our two standalone singles “Miss Sunshine” and “Turn Me to Stone”. Most recently, we actually just released our new song “Golden Headstone” last Friday. We released these songs because we felt like they showcased the mix of groovy and heavy sounds that we enjoy writing and sharing with the world, so those wondering what to expect from us can get a pretty good idea from what we have released. They can expect headbanging riffs, lyrical storytelling, and a lot of passion.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have quite a lot of new music that we’ve been working on for years now! Our newest single “Golden Headstone” is actually the first single off of our upcoming debut EP, which is coming out this summer. We’ve been in the studio recording it for the past week and all I can say is be ready for it. It’s a compilation of some of the band’s favorite material, and we are extremely excited to put it out into the world.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We’re currently going into festival season for the summer, but we do have a tour in the works for the release of the EP. We don’t have exact dates yet, but we’re expecting to hit some surrounding states on the east coast, so if you see that we’re in town or nearby in the future come out and rock out with us! We have a few shows lined up right now outside of the tour like Morgantown Music Festival this Saturday, opening for former Saving Abel vocalist Scotty Austin at the Dil’s Center June 10, and the RimRocks 2022 festival at a local venue called The Rim on July 15, all of which we are immensely honored to be a part of.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Right now we have a lot of really big plans for the band’s future. We have the EP release and subsequent tour coming soon this summer, which is a huge step for us. Like I mentioned earlier we’re currently going into festival season and are in the process of booking some of those as well. At some point we want to do a cover of an Alice in Chains song or something similar, so be on the lookout for that. We’re already planning out our first album, what tracks are going on it, what it will be called, the whole shebang. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, one day, we’ll play the Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Our music is pretty everywhere that you can find music! Spotify, Apple Music, whatever streaming platform you use we are most likely on. We also have a music video for “Golden Headstone” out now on YouTube. You can buy our stuff mainly at our shows, but we are now in the process of setting up an online store where you’ll be able to order merch there!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We’d like new listeners to remember the things that we as a band personally enjoy from our music. Writing the lyrics and riffs to our music is a lot of fun for us, and we try to show that at our live shows. We want people who listen to our music for the first time, whether at a concert or online, to remember the amount of passion we put into our music and the amount of fun we have doing it.
