Elemental band POLARITY has two full-length album's and two EP's along with a single, and a live EP coming up as well. The band does have all new music in the works, and even is playing locally with plans on touring soon enough. See how the band talks about all of this below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The original band members that started this group together and are still in this together are Jasmine Virginia and Michael Sitana. We've been around for over a decade with various other members over the course of the last few years. Our long time friend Deren Bostanci joined us on bass a few years back bringing his laid back walking riffs to the mix. Sheldon Fernandes entered the mix right before the world shut down but already he has brought his unique technical improvisational style to the group. Lastly, also longtime friend Julian Craig recently entered the mix, bringing his driving beats and unique fills to the group.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name POLARITY came up when we were discussing band name ideas one time at jam. Our music had a mix of hard crushing heavy distortion with a light ambient ethereal sound. Hence we decided on POLARITY the duality of light vs darkness, plus vs minus, positive vs negative.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Southern Ontario, Canada with our members spanning various cities. The music scene in Ontario is slowly picking up steam again post lockdown and we have been seeing a return to form for many of our favourite artists, promoters and venues. Some local artists and friends that we can recommend are Cevilain, Danger Liker & Red Handed Denial.
4. How would you describe your style?
Polarity as a whole is hard to describe in one style or genre, we pride ourselves in encompassing many elements from various genres ranging from Indie alternative to Djent. Our music will take the listener on an emotional rollercoaster of a journey with many peaks and lulls, creating artistic imagery in the mind of vast starfields, rolling hills and dense forests.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have 2 full LP albums, 2 EP albums, 1 acoustic single and an upcoming live off the floor studio EP and all our songs are available online on Spotify and all other streaming platforms worldwide.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have 3 new singles that were recorded live off the floor at Jukasa Studio and will have a staggered release over the next few months. The first single “Destruction of Memory” will be out on all platforms as of June 24th. All three of these singles will also be accompanied by studio session music videos so we hope that fans and newcomers alike will tune in and enjoy …
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We currently gig live locally and are eventually planning on national tours. The furthest we've gone in Canada was the east coast a few years ago and this August will be going through Ottawa and the Quebec area for a few shows and festivals.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
To continue to grow our music worldwide and to eventually travel the world playing our music. We all have many locations we would love to travel to and perform in, the UK and Japan being the two most sought after at the moment. After this upcoming release of “Live Off the Floor at Jukasa Studio” we plan on continuing our writing and working towards our next album.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can listen to us through any major and minor streaming website worldwide from Napster to Spotify. We are working on involving ourselves in as many platforms globally as we possibly can. You can also follow us on socials at “PolarityMusic” on Facebook and Instagram, and “PolarityOfficial” on YouTube.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
The energy you feel from the rhythm of the bass and the beat of the drums, the melodic poetry of the vocals and the unique riffs of the guitars. We like to create a journey with our music and provide a sonic atmosphere to our listeners. We also love hearing what others feel and picture while listening to our music.
