Experimental elementalists THE RIFT combine the like's of thrash metal, metalcore, blues, reggae, progressive and flamenco. With those genres doing their works, the band has released a debut album, and are working upon their follow-up album currently. The band plans to do some shows later this year as well. The band talks about these matters at hand below.
1. Please tell us about the history of the band and its members.
The band came about originally with my brother John when we were kids over the years it sort of took a life of its own and Ovais really helped solidify things in 2015 when he took over on drums. Ever since this it’s been all up or downhill lol!
2. What’s the origins of the band’s name?
The name came from the idea that we wanted to do something different. We have a very diverse set of influences so I think we had some foresight going into it that we needed a name that would compliment those influences.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of Southern California which has always been home, the scene has changed over the years but it is amazing how much talent from all over comes to perform here. Absolutely one of my favorite things about the scene here is we have some colleagues doing amazing things, recommend checking out Beware of Darkness & Budderside for starters.
4. How would you describe your style?
Someone recently told me we sound like California metal, I don’t know what that it is but I liked it lol. Generally speaking though I’d say we combine elements of thrash metal & metalcore with blues, reggae, prog, and flamenco.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have our first full-length album Invention 2016 and six singles in the years following. You can expect that we’re always going to be pushing the envelope with our songs in one way or another.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes we have our second full length album in the works finally, the songs are sounding great so we’re definitely excited to get it out there
7. How about shows and touring, anything planned out?
We’re going to be performing some very cool shows coming up. October 6th here in LA at the one and only Whisky A Go Go opening up for Tantric which is an amazing opportunity. Then we’re going to be doing a rock the vote effort to encourage folks here in the US to vote on the #Ivotedfestival with amazing bands like Rise Against & Halestorm. Very inspiring to be apart of something positive with artists like that.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Our plans are to keep pushing and expand our galactic empire lol. Honestly to get out there as much as we can we love performing live and writing new music so the more of that we can do I’m confident everything else will follow.
