Heathen Hearts Chats of New EP, Another EP and An Album in the Works!

Aggressive melodic metallic hardcore band HEATHEN HEARTS have an EP out and about right now, with a couple of music videos too! The band is also always writing so material towards what is likely another EP is expected to arrive sooner or later with a much later full-length to follow. The band chats of these releases and upcoming plans of action.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We formed Heathen Hearts only about a year ago. Heathen Hearts consists of five members;

Antti - Vocals

Lauri - Guitars and backing vocals

Jere - Guitars and backing vocals

Juhana - Bass

Ville - Drums

We were supposed to play a Turbonegro cover gig with this line-up back in 2020 but Covid ruined that for us. So our drummer Ville came up with the idea that we could start to do our own music and play hardcore. We have all played in different line-ups since our teens and Lauri was the link between all of us. And that’s how it got started. With the Turbonegro thing and then later on with our own music. Since then things have happened quite fast paced.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Heathen refers to someone who does not share the beliefs of dogmatic religions like for example christianity. The name resonates with the freedom to choose what or what not to believe in and how you want to live your life. It is an individual choice which others should respect. We stand behind this view with all our hearts!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in Kotka, Finland. In the past there were a lot of metal and punk bands, and it felt like everybody was playing some instrument. Nowadays maybe a bit more quiet than before but still the metal scene is somewhat alive. This is a small town but there are few metal bands that have already “made it” or getting there. For example Omnium Gatherum and Marianas Rest to mention some.

4. How would you describe your style?

Aggressive yet melodic metallic hardcore accompanied with influences from various metal subgenres. We found the core of our sound as soon as we started writing together, but our sound is still constantly evolving. Rather simple but efficient arrangements are the key to the crushy sound we think we achieved on the first release. Hardcore in general is more than just music, it is an attitude and whatever feels authentic and gets us excited, we will do it without thinking how it should sound.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released one 3-song EP only on streaming platforms with two music videos which can be found from our own YouTube channel as well as from Hardcore Worldwide YouTube channel. We've done quite a bit of interviews and received very good feedback and reviews from the EP. As from a writing stand point we have been pushing the boundaries naturally on all the aspects compared to the first release.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We are constantly writing. We are pretty soon in the phase of doing pre production and finishing touches for the songs for the next EP from an arrangement point of view, and after that starting to record the actual EP. Also a full length album is our target at some point in the future.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have now few shows this fall in south-eastern part of Finland. We are booking shows for next year and the plan is to cover a bigger part of Finland. Obviously we are interested in expanding the borders, and we’re sure that we’ll start planning something soon.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Recording and topping up ourselves on each release from our standpoint. Playing live as much as possible, and of course, finding PR / Label / Management partners who would be as excited as us and are sharing the same vision with us.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Music can be found on all streaming platforms, Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Apple music, Tidal, YouTube etc.. For now our merchandise is sold at https://www.unomas.fi/heathenhearts with world wide shipping.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Authentic fury and aggression, we are pouring ourselves into the music we are creating, and we hope that it can be heard. At least we feel like it and stand behind it. And if our music can make the listener feel like they can escape reality and find some comfort even for just a brief moment, we would like them to remember that.
