Changer Talks of Shows And Wanting to Making Music!

Groove metal band CHANGER has had 3 EP's along with 3 full-length album's as well. But they recently released and EP with an upcoming album expected out real soon if not possibly until the next year. Also have had the chance to play some shows and festivals too! The band talks of themselves, music, and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Changer has been around since ca 2000 Kristján started the band as a one man’s mission and recorded all the instruments on our first album January 109 and did the vocals but later he formed a band around the songs and since then we have gone through different lineups and directions and a total of six releases. Kristján and Hudson are the original members but the current lineup is Kristján on drums, Hudson (Hörður) on guitar, Óskar on guitar, Magnús on bass and Hlynur Örn as our singer

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Kristján just kinda thought of it, but when you look at the history of the band and how we have been exploring styles and genres it kinda fits perfectly.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are a Reykjavík band and I have to say the scene in Reykjavík and in Iceland is vivid! The scene has been evolving so much since we started in 2000 from a massive hardcore scene (I Adapt, Mínus,) to this insane death metal acts (Severed Crotch, Beneath, Angist)). After that we got cursed with Black metal (Svarti Dauði, Auðn, Nexion) and today new post black/death metal acts are rising that are just a perfect mix such as Múr and Devien defilement to name some. But we also have few metal acts that have risen from the underground scene and made a name for them self here in Iceland and abroad such as Sólstafir, Skálmöld and one pretty big in Iceland Dimma

4. How would you describe your style?

Today .. Pure groove metal but we do have a lot of trick up our sleeves from our early material.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released 3 EP and 3 LP all of them have their own personality, all of our release are metal “thrashy” or “deathy” but we have never been much black metal og hard core. We always set up for thrash metal but we also wanted to explore so Changer is a metal band.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! We just released last July an EP Pledge of the dying and we are working on a LP to be released late ‘23 or early ‘24.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We play Icelandic festivals and local gigs in Reykjavík and in Iceland but we haven’t in many years been on tour, we all have other jobs and responsibilities but we’d welcome the opportunity to play shorter tours and festivals in Europe.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Enjoying making music and playing live. Like I said this isn’t our main income so we just want to enjoy making music and hope that others like our vision for music.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We are all digital right now except for our last LP Darkling ppl can contact us if they want a hard copy of that album, otherwise we currently do not have any plans for a re-release of our older material… but you never know.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

To buckle up.
