The Deathtones Says Much on Music and Getting Out There to Be the Best!

Horror classic metal punks THE DEATHTONES have released some single's, a handful of EP's, along with newer music always in the works and being released! The band just wants to get themselves out there and be noticed and see where it takes them as well as their music. See what  the band says about this stuff plus much else below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was formed in late 2021. All of our members were already in a more mainstream punk act “RadioRiot!”, which put out an album, an EP and a few singles. Our writing had gotten progressively darker thematically speaking so we decided to go the horror rock route, and the rest is history.

As far as our members, we have Billy Bones on vocals, guitar and keys, Mikey Murder on bass, Killer Pat on guitar, Dorian Mordrake on guitar and Mr. Grim on the drums. Historically speaking, the band worked out very well from the start, as Billy and Mikey have been best friends for 20+ years and Mr. Grim and Dorian are also decades-long best friends, so it’s just a group of buddies making cool spooky music.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We were all sitting around in Mr. Grim’s basement throwing out ideas for band names and Billy eventually put the name “The Deathtones” out there. There were a bunch of possible names that made it to the scrap heap including “B Horror” and “The Psychotix” among others. Some people MAY think that “The Deathtones” sounds an awful lot like “Deftones”, but we figured that besides a legal difference in name, the minute someone listens to us, they’ll be able to tell the difference.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The Deathtones are out of Milford, Pennsylvania, USA. The scene here isn’t so much of a scene as it is the lack of a scene. There are lots of really good bands making cool fresh music out there, but most of the venues around us want 80’s cover music and won’t pay original artists, so we only play if the gig is worth it to us. As far as local bands to listen to, there are a few around us like “The Whiskey Bats” and “ALLTHEDAMNVAMPIRES”.

4. How would you describe your style?

It depends on what style you mean, haha. Attire wise? It changes but for the last year we have been doing donning leather biker style vests/jackets and have been wearing horror masks of “the big four”. This coming year we’re still deciding on our look. We get easily bored and always try to change things to stay fresh, so who knows what we’ll wear next?

As far as musical style, weThe  are a blend of horror punk, power and classic metal, alternative and a little boogie woogie and blues. Writing about anything considered horror, we have a broad range of fun and freaky topics to cover.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have released several singles and 3 EP’s between the end of 2021 and now. As far as EP’s, we released “American Monster”, all about real- life American killers, “Boomsticks and Bloodshed”, which features our favorite b-movie slashers and “Hail To The King”, which is all about the works of horror novelist Stephen King.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

All. The. Time haha. We try to release new music monthly so there’s always something new and fresh going on.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Right now we don’t have any cemented plans, but we’ve been talking amongst ourselves and if the stars align, we may be doing some shows in the not-so-distant future.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

I know it sounds like a cop out answer but we’re going to go as far as we can in the genre. We would love to be mentioned in the same breath as the greats like “Misfits”, “Blitzkid” and “Calabrese”, but for now all we can do is keep writing and keep releasing.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to us on our Bandcamp page and YouTube as well as ALL the streaming sites. Also, due to inflation we do not have a standing inventory of merch (except for music). We do however have a teespring page for your merchandise needs.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Don’t just listen to what is front and center on the recordings. There is so much buried just below the surface if you listen. Strings, Organ, Sound Effects, three and four part vocal harmonies, etc. Also, enjoy and have fun. Bang your head or tap your foot, get into it and stay spooky!
