Pop punks ATTN DEFICIT SQUIRREL have been around for a while, releasing an EP, with another single underway with an expected summer release come this next year! The band talks about themselves, music, and what's up next for them!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
ATTN Deficit Squirrel started as an idea back in 2016 between a few friends who all had a love for 90's & early-00's Pop Punk. Over the next two years, the band wrote a 4-song EP and recorded it in 2018. As the band was getting ready to play their first show in the Summer of 2020, the Pandemic hit, and shows were shelved. Regardless, the band still wanted to get their out there, so their eponymous debut EP was released in May 2020. In 2021, the band played their first show and have been building a reputation for putting on fun, energetic shows ever since. They plan on releasing their next single in the summer of 2023 while they work on their next EP to release within the next year or two.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Over a phone call, guitarist singer jokingly said, "how about Attention Deficit SQUIRREL?", a reference to Dug the Dog from Pixar's 2009 film, Up.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, which has an entertaining & eclectic music scene featuring other bands like Motel Faces, Life After This, and Big Smile.
4. How would you describe your style?
ATTN Deficit Squirrel is a throwback to synth-driven Pop Punk bands like New Found Glory and Motion City Soundtrack, as well as Pop Punk pioneers like Green Day, Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, and others of that era.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
The band has only released one EP so far and you can expect catchy, anthemic, and melodic Punk Rock.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
The band's next single has already been recorded and mixed & mastered by Ben Hannah of The Organworks Recording in Leeds, UK. Its release is scheduled for Summer 2023.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
The band plays all around the Greater Cincinnati Area and has two big festivals coming up: opening for Glam Metal legends, TUFF, at Kenny Ozzfest at MVP Sports Bar & Grille in Silverton, OH on December 3rd, 2022; and opening for ENMY at Schwabfest at Madison Live! in Covington, KY on January 21, 2023.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
The band wants to continue to put on great shows, release music, and expand their reach throughout the Midwestern United States.
