DIE TIRED has taken in inspirations from various genres ranging from classic rock, heavy metal, and pop punk, among others; it hasn't stopped them from releasing content. A single was recently made available with a handful of other single's in the works and an EP, and album too! The band talks of this material and much else below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Guitarist/Vocalist Matt DeAngelis and bassist Jim Lee have been long-time friends and collaborators. After previous projects dissolved they continued to write and pursue their next band. Second guitarist Sean Boyle was added to the mix after being introduced through mutual friendships at the guy’s barbershop. The trio began writing and putting together the groundwork for what would later become some of the songs to appear in the current set-list. Once this early version of Die Tired started hitting their stride, they knew it was time to bring in a drummer. One day, as Matt was scrolling through social media, he saw a post from a local drummer playing a deep cut from the band “The Used.” Matt quickly shared the video with the other guys and all agreed we had to contact him. After successfully reaching out, drummer Brandon Ballantyne was added to the mix. This version of Die Tired quickly hit it off and the music was electric. Over a year later and the band was signed to SODEH Records.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Originally derived from the old Marines adage: “You can run, but you’ll just die tired,” one might assume that their music has ominous undertones and potentially dark themes. Well, to Die Tired it is a punk rock way of saying, “Carpe diem!”
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Die Tired is based out of Reading, Pennsylvania. The music scene is quite diverse. We have had the opportunity to collaborate on shows with solo artists, singer-songwriters, jam bands, top 40 cover bands, metal groups, and other alternative rock arrangements such as ourselves. The music scene in Reading, PA stands out due to the ease of collaborating with artists outside of your genre in order to deliver the most unique, crowd catching shows and events possible. Venues include everything from traditional rock clubs, breweries, coffee houses, outdoor street fairs, and the famous Red Horse Hair Studio which converts into a music venue after hours. We have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with fellow Reading area band, Chiseled Lilies. They deliver a talented, high energy, driving punk rock show each and every time. 4. How would you describe your style?
Die Tired is a multifaceted band, pulling inspiration from classic rock, heavy metal, pop punk, and just about anything else that they can play on a guitar! On stage, their upbeat and passionate performances always leave you wanting more. It’s impossible to not tap your foot, nod your head, or belt out the lyrics to their incredibly eclectic take on rock n roll.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Through our label, SODEH RECORDS, we have released a single called “Play” which can be found on all major streaming services. The official music video for “Play” can be found on the Die Tired YouTube page. Fans can expect high-quality, emotional and dynamic songs that cross a variety of genres and lyrical themes.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are working on a number of additional singles, an EP, and a full length album; all which will be released gradually over the next several months. Previously recorded singles can be found on Spotify, which include “Whatcha Gonna Do?”, and “New Condition.”
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We have some local shows booked up for the next few months, including a huge party and celebration at Nitro Bar in our hometown of West Reading, PA on December 10th. We plan on starting to branch out, however, and extend our touring and shows to a larger radius come the new year.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We plan to continue to make music that is meaningful and exciting to us. We hope it resonates with our audience and that they enjoy and feel something. In addition to music, we strongly believe in creative branding and collaborations. We see a second music video, a live “In Concert” video, expanding our merch line, and working with talented artists to create unique Die Tired pieces such as concert posters, shirt designs, and stickers.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We are now on all major streaming services out there. You can also find our music on our website (dietiredband.com) and YouTube channel. We have a fully functioning web store as well with customizable shirts and other gear. Any items ordered are shipped directly to your address. We also have limited edition merch (such as hoodies or a physical copy of an EP) that are only sold at our lives shows for those that love a good collector’s item.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That they are not alone…music is a vessel that connects us all. Put all other responsibilities on hold. Live in the moment of our music. Play it loud. Reach your dreams or Die Tired trying!
