Blotter Discusses Previous Work and New Workings Too!

Rock n' rollers BLOTTER have one debut EP as well as a debut album! Their sophomore album is expected just around the corner too! No plans on playing live as of yet, but an upcoming website, merch, music videos and more. The band discusses all of this below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

BLOTTER currently consists of three core members: Timmy Pollock, on lead and rhythm guitar. Trey Bennett, on lead and rhythm guitar. And Jimbo Wainwright, on bass guitar. Between the three of us we all share lead and backup vocal duties. BLOTTER is actually a family affair because we're all cousins! Timmy and Jimbo have been playing together for over 15 years with Trey joining a little over 10 years ago following the departure of our last rhythm guitar player. We started as a cover band playing songs we just loved growing up, and it eventually evolved into us writing all our own music.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Originally we were called The Rock Grommets, since we're from the beach and liked surfing, but that didn't really roll off the tongue or was very memorable. Eventually we decided we had to make a name change, and sat down one day at a mutual friend's house to discuss it. After an undisclosed amount of beers and racking our brains someone came up with the idea of "what if we went with BLOTTER, like the paper they put LSD on?," and we just really liked it. Thus BLOTTER was born!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Currently we are based out of Newport and Manteo, North Carolina in the United States of America. Being from Eastern North Carolina where we're famous for our beaches there is a lot of beach music, country artists, folk music, and reggae bands around. However, there are many other groups that play rock, metal, hip hop, etc. It really is pretty diverse. A few we've worked with and recommend are Solace Betrayal, Monjah, Bonham Heights, and Waking Tera.

4. How would you describe your style?

We've always had trouble describing our exact style. Rock and roll has always been the answer we've given. Our heroes include bands like KISS, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Cheap Trick, and many others. You always want to emulate your heroes, so we try to use elements in our music from bands like that.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have one EP, American Underdogs, and one full length album, Wet Wild n' Nasty. People can expect from us that we always give it our all when writing, recording, and performing; we're always trying to improve our craft!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Absolutely! Our newest album, New Horizon, is due out in March of 2023! Plans for the rest of the year include a new acoustic EP we're really excited to begin work on, and another record we plan to begin recording later this year.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Most of our time and energy recently has been spent working on new music, so we haven't played many shows lately, but the last show we played while recording our new album was in January opening for The Midnight Devils and Enuff Z' Nuff! We had an absolute blast with that show and have just recently finished our last session for the new record, so we're beginning to line up some shows for the summer. Anyone interested in our future shows can find the information at any of our social media sites.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Most importantly we're working on building our catalog. We have so many songs we have written that we want to work on and record. Our next project is an acoustic EP that we've talked about for years, and we're absolutely stoked to begin recording it! Other than that there is plans for new merchandise, music videos, a new band website with online merch store, and of course getting back out to play live.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our music on YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, Soundcloud, and Reverbnation. Merchandise can be bought by messaging us through our social media accounts or our email address.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We are a DIY band! We write, record, produce, mix, and master all our own music! We hope you enjoy it!
