FAREWELL FORTUNE have released a debut album, with plans ahead for the follow-up expected out this spring! The band talks about their array of content, including some possibility of shows and maybe touring, only the time will tell for sure.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
My adventure in music started with attending a recording session for one of my friends bands in 2008. I enjoyed the energy so much in that studio, that I began to plan for my own musical endeavor in 2014. Originally formed the band under the name “Huffman”, and released an EP called “Reign of Five”, and an album titled “The World Awaits”. Originally formed as exclusively rock, “Huffman” was renamed as “Farewell Fortune” in 2019. I brought in numerous musicians including guitarists Kurtis Goad, Tim Wallace (Goodbye July), David Weston Gregory Jr, Matthew Berry (Classified Frequency), Joe Ruggiero (Fantasm), Tim Ruggiero (Fantasm). Drummers Paul Provensano, and Gary Holmes (Skitzo Calypso) also lent their skills in the studio.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name “Farewell Fortune” was indeed lightning in the bottle. I was traveling to the studio to begin recording the debut album “Decompose” and was on the phone with my wife. Over the course of the conversation, she uttered the words “farewell fortune” to something I had said. You have these moments in time where you just know that something is worth holding onto. This was one of them. The meaning to me lends toward that when you enter this business, there are no guarantees. You must take those risks with your finances, pride, and willpower to find the success in your dreams. You have to be willing to sacrifice money and time to lay the foundation.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Band is based out of Sterling, Virginia, but records in Middle River, MD at Deep End Studio.
The music scene is bursting with amazing talent. Middle River sits just outside Baltimore,
MD where many bands ply their trade at different venues. Bands that come to mind are
Goodbye July, Steep Steps, Skitzo Calypso, Rise Among Rivals, and isilme.
4. How would you describe your style?
Our style takes its influences from great artists like Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, and Chevelle. The listening tastes of those involved in this project are definitely wide ranging. I think you will find as you listen to the songs, we have brought many genres into play. Each song is meant to be unpredictable.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We released our first album in June 2022 titled “Decompose”. Seven songs, most of which are hard hitting rock songs. “Tightrope”, written by Kurtis Goad, is a ballad that deals with a not so easy subject to digest in suicidal thoughts. Other songs like “Unleash” and the title track “Decompose” lead off the album and are definitely songs that will make you take notice of our sound. There’s also a cover of the U2 classic “Bullet The Blue Sky” within the tracklist.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes indeed! Coming out on April 14th, 2023 is our next album “Chaos Serum”. Recorded alongside our debut album “Decompose”, this one contains ten new tracks including recently released single “When The Switch Flips”. We are currently developing a video for the album track “Static”, and have released “Watch The Walls Fall” and “I, Arise” to digital services.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
No shows or tours are as yet being planned. Once the album is done recording, we will begin looking at the availability of artists and trying to get all the schedules together to get some shows in.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We have recently signed with From the Depths Entertainment and Rogue PR. We are developing a roadmap for future shows, interviews, and albums. We are very proud of the product that we are putting out and can’t wait for people to hear it.

Great question! We just want the listeners to take the songs and make the meaning their own. We write songs with our own passions behind it, but music isn’t a solitary device. Let whatever emotions you’re feeling pour out from the words and instrumentation.
