Modern day metalcore band GREYMARCH have released a handful of single's every month back in 2022! Newer single's have become available in 2023 as well, with a lot else in the works! No plans for playing shows or touring for now, but see what else was talked about right below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
My name is Cody Hess, and Greymarch is pretty much my solo project. I started working on the music shortly after separating from my previous group (which toured with bands like All That Remains, Ice Nine Kills, and Atreyu). After spending months trying to find other like-minded musicians to fill out a lineup with no success, I decided to take the reins and bring the vision I had to fruition myself. I wrote, produced, recorded, and mixed all the songs myself, enlisting the help of Myles Clayborne of Saul for vocals. The tracks turned out excellent and I am really excited to unleash them on the world. So far they’ve been getting a really great response!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
As a big fan of the Elder Scrolls series of video games, I was inspired to name the project after one of my favorite storylines in the fourth installment. Greymarch is the name of an event in which the realm of madness is slowly taken over by the forces of order. I was struck by how vivid and colorful the world was before having its color siphoned away; it was an interesting take on how logic and reason can sometimes take the color out of life. I adopted that idea, taking the music very seriously, structured, logical, while not taking myself too seriously. I like to make great songs and goofy faces in promo photos.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Greymarch is based in Ft. Worth, Texas, USA, which is home to a lively music scene (metal in particular). Pantera rose to power just a stone’s throw away, and there is no shortage of local acts working to take that groove metal sound to the next level. I actually made a Spotify playlist featuring some of the DFW talent on the Greymarch page.
4. How would you describe your style?
Musically, Greymarch leans into an aggressive but accessible blend of modern metalcore, “marrying explosive breakdowns with soaring melodic injections”. Visually, the project puts out a brand of subtle dreamlike cover art and no shortage of goofy-face promo photos. I take the music very seriously; but I don’t take myself too seriously.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Greymarch began releasing a handful of singles every month in 2022, with “Eye for an Eye” coming out in October, “Social Disease” in November, and “The Prison We Make it” in December. The last of the three was featured on the Ex-Man Podcast hosted by Doc Coyle (Bad Wolves, God Forbid), as well as Spaceuntravel and Midweek METAL Podcast. I will continue to follow this pattern with two more songs, “Glass Houses” and “Bite the Bullet” in early 2023.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
To follow along with the idea of putting out new music every month or so, I plan to consistently work on the best material I can. I definitely have some strong ideas in the works right now that I’m excited to grow!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
As a studio project, I have no real aspirations of playing shows or touring in Greymarch. I’ve lived the whole “life on the road” scenario, from being crammed in a van with five or six other people to having a nice private bunk on a bus. No matter how you slice it, it's a rough life. And I just can’t imagine being away from my family! I haven’t really spent any time away from my wife since we’ve been married, and that’s exactly how I like it. Also, as a new father, I want to be home to watch my son grow and flourish and to help him along every step of the way.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
I plan to continue along with the strategy of releasing music regularly, and just building the Greymarch brand through well-thought-out songs, self-produced videos, and of course a sense of humor.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
For me, it’s all about creating something that is fluid, natural, engaging, and thought-provoking. I think Greymarch has a bit of something for everyone: meaningful lyrics, catchy hooks, intriguing riffs, and powerful breakdowns. I’d like the listener to remember how it made them feel, but most of all, I’d like for them to remember how it made them think.
