Mixer-uppers LUNARIAN had released an EP way back when in 2011 but due to some difficulties it has some issues to it. But in 2020 a couple of new song's were made available but those were also with some issues, but another set of songs were ready to go for this year and are available online now! The band talks of these issues, new music, and much else planned for them!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The members are Rivelino Ismaya as vocalist / guitarist / synth / other instruments, Anink Edyson on guitars, Immanuel Willy on bass, and Ekky Setiawan as the drummer. We think 2010 is the year where LunariaN was really born after several changes in the past. We released an EP in 2011 called Experimental Thinking through Phoenixx Records in Manchester-UK, performing from stage to stage in Indonesia, before for some reason we had to pause in 2014. Last year we picked up the pace again, finished our first album which will be out this May, while releasing 1 song each month since January. Currently we’re planning a small tour to promote it after its release
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
In the beginning we’ve always felt that our music is not something that’s easy to describe because of our fondness mixing genres based on each of our members’ knowledge, so the name LunariaN represents something that’s not of this earth, something that’s yet to be deciphered.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of Jakarta, Indonesia. The music scene here now is definitely more diverse than it used to be, although if you’ve been following the progress, so many sound similar to each other, but that’s part of the process. Our recommendations might not be reliable but we can say that names like Sigmun, Singdawa, Gabber Modus Operandi, and Sajama Cut are worth listening to.
4. How would you describe your style?
We always say that you can try to imagine a mix of Bloc Party or SoaD’s guitar riffs, the eerie Radiohead’s Amnesiac ambience, and Devin Townsend’s eccentricity into one, and then add some splash of European traditional music and underlying quirky electronic sound. Now imagine that, try it with a smile.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
An EP back in 2011 but we’re trying to take it down online which has proven to be more difficult because of a few reasons. In 2020 we had released 2 songs which we’ve also taken down. Now what we have is 3 songs released in January February and March 2023, with some videos on YouTube,
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Definitely. What we like the most is the creation process, we almost always have something cooking, regardless if it will be finished or not Aside from the upcoming album, we’ve already started planning the basic of the next album, which is a challenging one.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
In addition to occasional performances, the closest tour is a small one to promote the first album, which will take place around Jakarta and the surroundings.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
As far as the music goes, we’ll never stop creating, that’s for sure. Other plans involve the typical performances and promotion, however we do dream to tour outside Indonesia, and our experience and statistic have told us that our music is accepted more by people outside Indonesia.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The same old streaming platforms and YouTube, however, our merch is on the way, so do keep an eye out.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
There’s two things came to our mind. The first is it’s more like we’d love to be one of those bands that when someone hears us for the first time without even noticing who’s playing on the player, he/she will instantly want to hear more and investigate more. Secondly, we’d like it if when someone hears our name, they would think “oh that one good name that happened to music”
