Melodic rock n' rollers GHOSTS OF SUNSET released an EP and a couple of full-length albums so far, with a couple of all new songs already to go as well. Show playing isn't in the works currently but something or other will pop up hopefully soon. The band talks about all of this and more below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Ghosts of Sunset is myself, John Merchant, and my friend and bandmate of over 30 years Todd Long. We’ve made music across several genres, toured the country with an Americana band called “Dutch Henry” and now share song writing duties with Ghosts of Sunset.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
It’s a tip of the hat to the 1980s hair metal scene we both grew up on and an homage to musicians and bands that got their start on the Sunset Strip like Buffalo Springfield, the Doors, the Byrds and others.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
I am in Michigan and my partner Todd is in Florida. In my area, most of the bands I like are now defunct, but if you’re looking for some Michigan-based rock n roll, check out Barrel Bones, the Rockit King, and a band that split up called The Holy Cows.
4. How would you describe your style?
Melodic rock n roll with its roots in 1980s hard rock, but influenced by great songs of any genre.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve released a concept EP called “Headed West” and a full-length album called “No Saints in the City” both on Golden Robot Records. Our latest album is called “Breathe” released on Deko Entertainment. Each of these is filled with narrative driven, hooky, hard rock songs.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We have two new songs in the can for what we hope to be our second full-length release on Deko.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Right now, the geographic distance between us makes touring not financially viable, but we’re definitely trying to figure some sort of live engagements out.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Keep writing, recording, and connecting with people who enjoy the same kind of music we do.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
How much love and effort we put in it. We love music and we’re just hoping to give a little back, because music has given us both so much.
