Groove metal band PAST THE FALL just released their most recent full-length album "From Insanity's Ruin", as well as working upon all new music as well! The band discusses their music more, video releases, and perhaps doing some shows as well, below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The inception of the band, and really its heart is built from a friendship between me (Will) and Thomas, We’ve known each other since we were 11 years old! We’ve been in and out of bands and played music around each other but eventually we decided to create Past The Fall and make something from both our styles. Thomas’s brother Matt is a really talented drummer and plays on all our records and we did our first tour with him, Matt doesn’t have time to tour due to his family commitments so we recruited our drummer Sebastain Fernadez to play all the live shows with us.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Well we wanted something nobody had to set us apart- so we knew it would have to more than just one word! Past The Fall just popped into my head (out of a shortlist of a few others that were not so good!) and it really felt it symbolized our desire to move past previous failures and troubles in life and other musical projects and forge anew.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Me and Thomas both originally hail out of the cambridgeshire area and Thomas Lives in Cambridge now, so that's our local stomping ground. The scene has had a real resurgence in recent years, there's strong local support and great metal bands coming from there, check out Akkadian and Akilla!
4. How would you describe your style?
Groove metal, crossed with elements of melo death sprinkled with grunge and dollops of epic solos.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have a full length Album out now called ‘From Insanity’s Ruin’ and every song has its own unique calling card and it covers a lot of ground light to dark whilst remaining heavy throughout.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yep! We're working on 3 new singles as we speak and the first should be out towards the end of this year.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Well we have a lot of tour experience pre-covid touring the US EU and MEX as well as our neck of the woods in the UK. Post covid we were back out in 21 just in the UK rebuilding momentum into this year (23) so far we’ve had some euro shows and just played LeOFF Hellfest and will be playing Bloodstock UK for the first time on Sunday with Megadeth!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We’ll be releasing more singles and videos over the course of the next year, and moving onto larger festival stages with some international touring thrown in to keep us busy.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Best place to listen is Spotify, following the band page there helps us out so much. The best place for merch is out page www.pastthefall.com.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
How different our music feels and how the songwriting is put up front and center before anything else- and hopefully just how hard it rocked haha!
