AXiS's Discussion on Electric Peace And Future Plans

Rockers AXIS have just released their most recent new album "Electric Peace", and a member of the band, goes into discussion about this release and the plans ahead.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We formed in 2012. I was playing with another trio from Romania and we had a gig in Dejan and Ranko’s hometown in Serbia. That was the moment we meet. This was around 2009. We stayed in contact. In the meantime my band at that time broke so the logical thing was to start a group with the Serbs.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Dejan came up with it. It’s roots are our love for Hendrix. He came with the idea to name the band after Hendrix’s second album – Axis: Bold as Love

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re, let’s say, a multinational band. Dejan the bass player and Ranko the drummer are from Serbia. Me, I’m from Romania. We are playing in both countries but more often in Romania. The underground music scene is, let’s say, average. Culturally speaking, what we’re doing does not have it’s place in Romania. There are a few music listeners that do not consider rock as being from heavy metal and above here. Romania has a lot of festivals, but genre wise, they can be split into 4 categories: blues, jazz, rock and electronic. Last one for sure it’s not for us. Jazz as well. Rock fests usually have bands, like I said above, from heavy metal and up, which leaves us with the blues festivals, hence the “blues band” tag that we have here, but where we are the “black sheep” so to say. Other than that, the scene is okey. There are a lot of bands in Romania. Unfortunately, for my taste, they are trying to be “new” too hard. Few of them have their own identity. Check out RoadKillSoda, onenightstand or The Hidden Jester. Other than that, in the rock area, I’m not a big fan of other bands.

4. How would you describe your style?

“Raw, bold and strong”. We’re very conscious about the fact that the wheel has already been invented a long time ago. We’re not trying to bring something new to the scene. That’s almost impossible nowadays, with the quantity of music being released every day. What we are more focused on playing what we like and trying 100% to own it and craft our own identity. We’re not trying to sound like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple of Hendrix, but we’re not hiding the influences what so ever. I think in a world where music has become some sort of sport, we’re trying to bring the soul back into it, a little bit. One of the bands that I believe is doing it really good are Rival Sons. They have my total appreciation for how they managed to revive the classic rock scene.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve released two albums and one single in between them. First one was called “First Punch”. It’s more of a “hey, this is us” type of album. After that, during the pandemic, we got inspired from what was going on in the world. Musicians were tore apart and we wanted to do something about it. We released “Good Things” which was a home recording of every member and also included some of our dear musician friends, who where struggling with the same situation.
Moving forward to this year, we have released our second album “Electric Peace” which we believe is a statement of classic rock. Anyone who knows our music is familiar with the “band in a room” vibe. This is what we believe has disappeared in today’s music. Everything is sterile. There’s nothing wrong with every beat not being quantized. There’s nothing wrong with a not so pitch perfect note, here and there. I think that this is what makes the music alive.
Everything we recorded, except “Good Things” of course, was done in a more or less “live” situation, but, of course, in the studio.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ve just released our newest records. Now it’s the time to push it a little bit. For sure there will be another one, but first we have to do the best we can to grow Electric Peace.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are currently planning a autumn national tour, which we’ll extend into the winter and spring of next year, also beyond the boarders of Romania. This is our plan at least. Let’s see if we also can make it happen.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

To stay healthy and rock as long as we can. Our main goal is to gig as much as possible and in between put some ideas on the paper, for future discography.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our music is available on all major streaming platforms. Currently we have two online shops, one on BandCamp and one on Spotify. You can find shirts, CDs, vinyls and also USB business card flash drives with our music. Your support is highly appreciated. To make it easy, here’s a link that has all the streaming and shopping destinations inside. Pick your favorite!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The power, honesty, soul and naturalness of it all. This is what I hope to deliver on the other side.  Thank you for having me! 😊
