The Loners Discusses Namesake, Music, and More!

Alternative rock band THE LONERS discusses their name, style, and how much they have released so far. Newer music is expected real soon as well. Some shows have been played with a whole lot more in-store too!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The Loners originally started as a two-piece acoustic/bass indie/pop band. This consisted of Nath and Ross. Ross decided to call it a day after around 2 years, just as our current drummer, James joined the band. James had recently met Nath in the pub, while watching a football game. Through a mutual friend, they spoke about their love for playing live and being in a band.

Nath and Mark were at University together and always touched on the idea of playing in a band, but with life taking over and following different directions, it wasn’t until 12 years later that Mark decided to join the new “The Loners” line-up.

This was the start of the new “sound” The Loners were about to develop. What once was an indie band, has now developed into an alternative rock, band.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Nath chose this name from the very beginning as he felt he was always a bit of a loner, growing up.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Both James and Nath are from a small town in West Lothian. The music scene is a lot better than it used to be and a few successful acts have already broken out, into the mainstream music, world. I think people are aware of Lewis Capaldi and The Snuts. There are so many other great bands that we gig with on a regular basis. Mark stays closer to Glasgow and there is a much more active music scene, within the city.

4. How would you describe your style?

We introduce a variety of styles within our songs. There is some grunge, indie, blues and some rock. It seems to fit well within the “alternative rock” vibe.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released four songs, so far. Obtuse, Winning Now, Dirty Lies and You. Again, this is a mixture of punk, rock and some grunge. You is an acoustic song with keys and strings.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! We have a song we are looking to record at the end of August 2023.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Since February 2023, we have played a live show, almost every month. This was our aim, to get back out, playing live, since Covid-19 stopped “everything”. We were recently playing a show in Nottingham, which was so much fun. We next have Party at the Palace on August 12th and then around four more shows, booked for the rest of the year.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We would probably like to do a small tour next year; playing more shows south of the border and then working our way back up, home. We would like to record a couple more songs and potentially get an E.P. out.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We are on all major platforms: Spotify, Amazon, ITunes etc. If you want to buy some T-shirts, then just give us a shout on Facebook/Instagram.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I think we want our listeners to just enjoy what they are hearing, and hopefully relate to what we are singing about. There is so much passion and energy in our songs and specifically when we play live, we really like to let loose and enjoy ourselves. We hope our listeners enjoy themselves, too!
