Progressive metal band CHOROSIA have not one but two album's out and about, with more music on the way as well. The band talks about these releases, shows coming up, and touring too!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Chorosia was founded in 2017 in Vienna by four guys from Bosnia, Italy, Luxembourg, and Germany. Just four dudes who had recently moved to Vienna and wanted to make some music.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
It’s just something I came up with while being bored during college classes. It’s a wordplay on the Croatian word “Korozija” (rust, corrosion). Thought it sounds cool, it gives a hint of what it might mean, and it’s something unique. A word that doesn’t exist so it can mean anything to you.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re based in Vienna and the scene here is pretty okay. Could use some more extreme stuff but it’s pretty good nevertheless. There are some really cool bands from around here, especially in the stoner/doom genre.
4. How would you describe your style?
Honestly no idea, probably closest to progressive/post-sludge metal. We throw in a bunch of influences from all over the spectrum. Doom, sludge, prog, grind, folk, blues, ambient - it’s all in there. Genres are irrelevant anyhow, it’s the fact whether you like it or not that matters.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We’ve released 2 full-length albums so far (S/T in 2018 and “A Call To Love” in 2021). Expect a lot of riffs, pounding drums, and angry vocals. Throw away all your expectations from a typical sludge band and prepare your eardrums for some surprises. You might end up confused at first, but that’s good. A bit of a challenge is always good.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yeah, “Stray Dogs” is out Sept 15th, that’s what this thing is all about. Get via our Grazil Records and Kvlt und Kaos Productions!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Yes, two release shows in Austria, then a tour in the Balkans regions, and after that a bunch of central European gigs in November. If you’re reading this and would like to invite us to play in your town just reach out to us, we’re always looking out to play new locations!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
More riffs.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The best source is probably Bandcamp, but we’re pretty much on all streaming platforms. The best experience by far is coming to a live gig, though!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
To check out more of our stuff!
