Alternative band THE HAPTICS have their debut album out and about, with newer stuff planned for release soon. Show playing is set, with new music of course, and a lot more in-store as well. See what else the band discusses about below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Cam, Brent, Flavio and Jin met online: each of them was searching for like-minded musicians in the B.C. area to play with. They bonded over a shared love of dark rock and post-punk and have been playing with each other ever since.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Jin was reading a William Gibson novel that described haptic feedback and she shared her excitement over the idea with Brent. The two of them decided the concept and name would be great to feature as the band's name and shared the idea with Cam. He loved it and The Haptics were born.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The Haptics are based out of Vancouver, Canada. There's a lot of great local bands we've played with and highly recommend: a couple that come to mind are Barbarians and Autonomous Apes, among others. You can catch them- and us- playing around town pretty frequently!
4. How would you describe your style?
We make a blend of alternative rock and post-punk that's got hints of shoegaze and punk as well.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We released our first album in 2022: "Second-best". We recently released a single "Zeroes" off our upcoming EP "Zero Gravity". Expect thrumming bass lines, melodic guitar, catchy drums, soulful lyrics, and 80s style vocals. And yes, that's a girl singing.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We're always working on new stuff and plan to release a couple new songs soon. Stay tuned on Spotify and our socials to find out!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We're playing September 21st at Portside in Vancouver, that's our next show. We're also playing in November at the Fox Cabaret with a couple other stellar bands! We hope to do some touring next year!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We're going to keep making rad stuff we like and hope our listeners like, too. We plan to play around Vancouver as much as we possibly can, and travel to some neighboring bits of the province to play there as well. We're also really hoping to be able to get out and play some festivals next year! Love the vibe and energy of so many people getting together and grooving!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We are on Spotify and Apple Music as "The Haptics"! Watch for more on our socials to find out about cool merch and other news.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We poured our hearts and souls into our music, and hope it shows. We find translating our feelings and experiences into music to be magical, and hope a little of that magic trickles through to you, the listeners.
