Heavy melodic metal band A MOMENT OF VIOLENCE or AMOV have a handful of single's out, which will lead to the release of their upcoming EP. Besides music, they have some shows running out for this year, straight into this next year. The band discusses their music, show playing, and releasing and just playing a whole lot more, read it below!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band came about when Scott (drums) and I (Dez, songwriter, producer, and guitars) were playing on a softball league together. We had discussed starting a band. Nothing came of it for several months, until one day we decided to buy a drum kit and search for others.
Brent was the next one to come along. Scott and I have been scouring social media for another guitarist for months. We had a hard time getting someone until one day my neighbors ex wife was outside and said that she had heard us play, and that her husband at the time was a guitar player. Brent worked incredibly hard to learn all of our songs, and quickly became the second half of the infamous AMoV guitar duo. Next came Alex (screaming vocals). We heard him belt out a ferocious scream and knew right there that he had potential to make us sound great as a band. And being that he has an entertainment background in professional wrestling, it was literally a “no-brainer” to add him. Next was Russ (clean vocals). We had met Russ a while before he actually joined the band. When we first got started, we played an open mic at a local bar in hopes of maybe finding other members. He was the one running the open mic, and when we heard him sing, we thought to ourselves that he has “it”. That said, we pursued him, but initially he declined the offer as he had too much going on with other bands that he was with at the time. About a year later an opening came through with his schedule and we again asked him to join us. He agreed and were very happy he did. He filled out the vocal sound that we were hoping to achieve. Last but certainly not least, we asked Hatchet (bass) to join us. After many other bassists, we found what we were looking for in a “low end specialist”. Hatchet being very coachable was quickly able to learn the songs became the final piece of the puzzle. Shortly after all of this, we met our label rep Pepper Gomez, and signed with Wake Up! Music Rocks, which is going fantastic! We’re excited about the journey ahead!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Scott came up with this. He explained that he was at a ball game and during the opening credits of the game the announcer asked for a moment of silence. And the “Violence” part just came to him as a play on words. He then sent the idea into the band chat as an idea for a song or EP name. I thought it was really fitting for the band name. The rest is history.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there?
We are out of South Florida. Everyone of us are from other northern states, and transplanted here in Florida. The music scene is very competitive. There are a lot of really good metalcore bands in the surrounding cities. We had the pleasure to play with many of them. In South Florida heavy music listeners are very loyal and seem to love coming out the the various shows regularly.
4. How would you describe your style?
When I write music, it tends to be a good mix of heavy and melodic riffs, and phrases. Being the producer and engineer also, I try to make each song more than just a song. We will try to make the composition as cinematic as possible for the listener to have a really great ride, and story to follow. We will and have put out many different styles. Some songs are just heavy as hell and other are sweet melancholic ballads. There’s really not a style that we won’t work on as we like to be as versatile as possible.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released four singles so far. Just one as a signed band through Wake Up! Music Rocks which is “Stone Cold Killer”. This song is an example of our heavier side. We are just about finished recording our second label release “My Endless Nightmare” which will still have some heavy elements included, but most definitely features a more “pop rock” style chorus. It’s extremely catchy. We have three more after the two which are also incredible tracks that the people should be on the lookout for.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, we have released one of five song that will complete our first EP.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
At this point we have three more shows on our schedule before the end of the year. Touring is a strong possibility for 2024. We’re in the works of getting that setup currently.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We have every of intention of releasing amazing music that can resonate with just about anyone. Additionally, we’ve got our space suits ready for takeoff on our pursuit to the moon!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
All of our releases are available on Spotify and pretty much every major media outlet where music is heard.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I’d say that if they find themself humming or singing it even after it’s no longer on the radio, then it’s a job well done. We aim to give the listener the most amazing experience ever, and love to hear that they’re always craving more from our catalogue.
