Rock n' roll band FUZZ EVIL have released a split, couple of EP's, and an LP even, so a whole lot of music to be entertained by. With even newer music to be out and about within the next year! The band talks about all of this music, with plans in the works to do some shows, with much more in-store for them next year most likely!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us! So, Fuzz Evil started around 2014. My brother, Wayne Rudell, and I, Joseph Rudell where just finished with a tour with our other band Powered Wig Machine (https://poweredwigmachine.bandcamp.com) and had the itch to do something a little different. We sat down and wrote our self-titled album (https://fuzzevil.bandcamp.com/album/fuzz-evil-fuzz-evil ) and after multiple albums and tours Fuzz Evil is now our main project. Fuzz Evil is primarily Wayne and I. On each album we’ve had the pleasure of working with different drummers. This last album was 100% Wayne and I. All the instrumentation was done by the two of us. Wayne and I have been playing music since we were little kids. Wayne is 4 years older than me, and we’ve pretty much always hung out together. When he picked up a guitar it was pretty natural for me to grab a bass.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
In the past we spent a lot of time coming up with the names of our bands. This one came pretty easy. Wayne is obsessed with Fuzz pedals. Dudes got a garage full of them and even made some himself. I can’t exactly recall, but I’m pretty sure the name came out of one of those moments where I said man that Fuzz is Evil…….AND there you have it an appropriate band name.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Where from a little town called Sierra Vista about an hour south of Tucson and just on the border near Tombstone. I actually went to high school in Tombstone. I think there are like 50k people around here. The music scene really encompasses the entire region of small towns. The music scene here is awesome. There aren’t a ton of bands, but the ones that are here are really well put together and work hard. Everyone supports each other and the shows always have good crowds. All the bands here have different vibes. The most active punk/metal bands down here playing originals are probably Truth Untold, Noxious, Vibora and Fading Point. If you came down here, I’d recommend going to any show that’s going on. You’ll have a good time for sure. Bisbee, AZ, about 20mins away, is also a pretty amazing part of our scene. There are a ton of top-notch musicians and some entertaining acts going on like Juniper Djinn and the Rhythm Revue. Go to Bisbee and you’ll likely find someone playing something unique.
4. How would you describe your style?
Rock and Roll with a little bit of dipping into lots of different genres! Fuzz Laden jams with good hooks, intertwining guitar and bass, catchy beats, and lots of imagery in the lyrics.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
So far we’ve release a 7” split with Chief, a 12” split with SwitchBlade Jesus, 2 EPs, and our latest new blood with is an LP. You can find all our music on all the major platforms or over at our website https://www.fuzzevil.com.
Our music is easy to jam too. Up-tempo and driving, yet still something to kick back and nod your head to. I’ve always thought that the connection between siblings comes through in the music. A lot of the interplay between the instruments and parts comes out of how we’ve learned to write/play together over the course of 25+ years. The music feels natural and driving, yet there is a lot of diversity in the harmonization, syncopation, and melodies.
Our last album “High on You” was recorded at Studio 606 (Dave Grohl’s studio) with the producer Paul Fig. That was quiet an experience for us. Being produced by a truly gifted and experienced musician/engineer really shaped how we wrote our more recent album “New Blood” We really put to practice all that we learned from working with Paul stepping out and letting the music tell a story. The beauty of “New Blood” is that it’s a Long Play. Almost 60 mins of music. This helped shaped “New Blood” into something a bit different than the other albums. The album starts with a familiar feeling as our other albums, but really lets loose into more risky tracks, different genres, and some deep cuts.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Oh yeah! When we wrote the material for “New Blood” we wrote about 20+ songs. We have already selected about 6 to put out as an EP early in 2024. We are also almost finished with a cover of the Cars we will be releasing in November. On top of that we were also included on Ripple Music’s 3 LP tribute to Creedance Clearwater Revival. That should be publicly available here very soon. We were honored to have our spin on “Down on the Corner” included.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Right now we are pulling in a new drummer and second musician to bring the album “New Blood” to life live. We should be back to playing shows starting in December this year. From there we will likely tour in 2024. Likely heading west up the coast We’ve previously toured up the Westcoast and out east into Texas in the past! Looking forward to getting back on the road.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
I think first and foremost is releasing more music often. We are planning on upping the frequency of releasing new music. Likely multiple singles and an EP yearly. We’ve found a pretty good process to write and record music, and we are excited to share all the interesting stuff we’ve been writing. We’ve already released multiple music videos, lyric videos, and art with our new album. Wayne and I also started an animated series called “Fuzz Off” We brought to life a Big Muff and Super Fuzz Pedal through animation. The series is pretty hilarious. Our latest episode was sponsored by Game Changer Audio featuring a Plasma Pedal as a terminator like character. You can check those out here https://www.tiktok.com/@fuzzevil . Stay tuned because we are always coming up with something crazy.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I know there it’s hard to replace going to a live show, but imagine you’re standing in a dark room. Spot lights on the stage. a nice breeze is blowing through the venue carrying the scent of your favorite venue. You can feel the excitement in the air from the people around you. Then BOOM the music starts and you are being hit with a wall of fuzz. The kick beating in your chest. Put on our music and just for a moment come with us and experience a show. Thanks again for having us! It’s been a pleasure answering your questions. Looking forward to talking with you again sometime in the future!
