Electromelodic band OCTOBER CHANGES have debuted their first EP, music video, with a whole lot more in-store as well! The band goes into talks about their material and the plans they have up next for themselves.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band started in 2019, but it took a while to assemble the current line-up. Luk is a founding member of the band, and was quickly joined by Wesley. After some line-up changes the band eventually landed on the current line-up, with Bert and Lhana joining the ranks. Currently we are still looking for a bass player that fits the group’s dynamic.
Last year the entire musical direction changed when Lhana joined the band. Luk always had a clear view of what the music of October Changes should sound like, and today that sound is heavy, melodic and approachable metal music.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
There are 2 parts in this answer. When the Roman calendar was adjusted to the Gregorian calendar, October shifted to the 10th month in this calendar. So October Changed. I wanted to provide a name for my band that has the intention to bring change and have an impact on people’s musical journey. Moreover, the majority of the changes within the band happened in October so this name is very fitting.
The other part of the answer is about the influence other groups have on OC: Texas In July, August Burns Red, Dead by April, Death in December (less known post hardcore), Novembers Doom…. All these names contain a month which always caught my attention 🙂. They are all really great.
Nice side note, the first names were “Urban Core” and “Cyanide Season”...
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Most members live in Belgium and the Netherlands. In Belgium, the local music scene is mostly limited to smaller venues, while the bigger venues are booking the bigger bands. We have some very nice venues nearby, like the Ragnarok club in Bree. There are some very good bands in the local scene, like our friends at Ylisia from the Netherlands.
4. How would you describe your style?
In the beginning we did not have a personal definition …. however past summer Lhana suddenly popped up the name “Electromelodic” what might the best description at this point. We wanted to create something new and unique.
Our songs go from melodic in the fashion of Within Temptation / Evanescence to more electronic Electric Callboy to more heavy metalcore…. It just results in a show with a huge variation :).
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
This December we released our first EP “SYNTHETIC / Authentic”. We also recorded and released a video clip for the song “Sleeping Beauty”, taken from our EP. The video clip has well over 22k views at the moment so we are very pleased with the feedback we have received so far!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We only released four songs on the EP, but we have a lot more in store for our fans. The setlist is more than an hour long and we continue making new songs. Every song usually starts with writing some riffs, adding the different electromelodic layers to it and then composing catchy vocals.
Definitely expect to hear new music from us in the future!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Our first focus this year was to record and release our EP. We will shift to playing live next year and getting our music out there. We would love to organize a tour in Europe and the UK and currently we are getting in touch with bookers and venues. Keep an eye on our socials and website to see if we will play a venue near you!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Obviously, it would be a dream come true to go to as many countries as possible. Our dream is to bring Change, to spread the Change our music can provide and give music a different kind of meaning.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The EP is released on all major platforms. You can find us on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube… You can also find us and buy our album digitally on Bandcamp. Keep an eye on our socials and our website. You will also be able to purchase our music physically as a CD or Vinyl pretty soon!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That it's a completely different world than what they're used to. It's a world where many-many things get mixed. It's not one way or the other. There are multiple ingredients and despite their different nature, they can still coexist with one another. Like us, humans.
