Slow Burning Car's Troy Spiropoulos Talks of Most Recent Album, Single, and Plans Ahead!

Rock band SLOW BURNING CAR have been actively releasing music for some time, but last and first time spoken too, happened back in 2009! Since then, the band has grown and gone through a lot, so says the lead vocalist, bassist, Troy Spiropoulos, in which he talks about all below!

1. The first and only time we last spoke was back in 2009, so give me a brief "catch up" on what Slow Burning Car has been up too?

First off Natalie, it is so good to work with you again. It has been far too long! Wow, where do I begin.
Well we are now up to our sixth album "Vicarious Disclosures" recorded with new band mates (Aaron Kusterer - lead guitar, Tommy Marcel - rhythm guitar, Zak St. John - drums, Kim Claybourne St. John - backing and lead vocals). We have performed throughout the country as well as overseas in England and Greece.

2. Back then you had released "Vol.2 - The Scattering," what other releases have commenced since then?

Oh, since then we have released "Assumption (2013), Defection (2017), Projection (2021), and now Vicarious Disclosures (2023)

3. Would you say that the band's line up has changed or remained the same since we last spoke?

It has changed tremendously. I am the only original member from back then.

4. Can you talk about your recent single "Hard Time Walking" for us?

That was a song written and performed over twenty years ago with an old band I was in called The Quick & The Dead. I wanted to revisit it and give a new touch with my current band mates. The theme of the song, which involves the struggles of obtaining a career in music in Los Angeles, are still valid today as they were back when I wrote it. There is a promo video on YouTube of it as well that people can check out.

5. That song comes off your new album "Vicarious Disclosures", discuss this album, where it falls in the time line of Slow Burning Car's discog?

A definite blend of Alt-Rock, Indie Metal, Folk, and garage rock. I think it's a logical progression in terms of writing. Our lead guitarist Aaron Kusterer engineered and co-produced the album as well which made in more homogenous in terms of band dynamics and accuracy in what we were trying to convey sonically.

6. When did you start writing for this album? How was the songwriting process different/similar to previous Slow Burning Car albums?

The writing process started in 2021 (with the exception of Hard Time Walking and Millionaire which were completed over twenty years ago). I don't necessarily think the process was any different than previous albums. I demoed the tracks at home as usual, sent them to Aaron as blueprints and then we took off from there.

7. Are you using any new instrumentation you’ve never used in the recording process before?

YES!! We tracked some bouzouki on an acoustic cover of Iron Maiden's "wasted Years" performed by my friend Andy Georges which came out fantastic! The first cover song we have ever recorded.

8. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

No, I just wanted to continue making solid music that was worthy of the Slow Burning Car title, and continue carrying on the brand exposing it to more people and territories than before.

9. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?

Clear and Crystallic.

10. Does the band have any new music already in the works in terms of a follow-up?

We just released this album in September so we are going to focus on promotion of it and performances as of now. I will probably start the process of writing and recording demos sometime in the summer of 2024.

11. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We are still active performing in and around the Southern California area.
We are also planning to go over seas to Greece this summer for a week of performances.
We are also eyeing England.
You can log on to www.slowburningcar.com for any and all show dates as well as all info band related.

12. What are the plans set for the next year come 2024?

More performing and massive promotion via social media as well as video production to promote songs from the new album.
