Modernized metalheads MEGGERA have an EP, some single's, and even a debut full-length album out now too! The band talks about these releases, upcoming plans, and how they came to be in the first place.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Established in 2016 in Minas Gerais, Brazil, Meggera began as a personal musical project. Initially recording for their own enjoyment, they captured the attention of a notable producer who encouraged them to release their track "Natal Metal" professionally because it was “way too good to be kept away from the world.” With their first music going viral in 2017, the band started to be invited to play in music festivals and didn’t stop from then on. From 2018 onward, things got really serious, and Meggera indeed entered the Heavy Metal scene; they’ve won various festivals, performed as opening acts for famous bands, and went on a tour throughout Brazil. In 2019, the members reunited to live together and write the debut album, and in 2023 decided to move to Europe.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Meggera is one of the three Furies of Greek mythology, guardians of the gates of the underworld.
The three Furies were always dressed in black, and their faces were terrifying and horrible.
The band draws inspiration from these characteristics in their intense sound, acidic approach, and visual appeal.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band currently lives in Lisbon, Portugal. There is a music scene of heavy and extreme music, and bands that make up the genre, such as the band Besta.
4. How would you describe your style?
We believe that the band does not have a specific style, we can say that we play modern metal, making heavy and technical songs.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
The band released an EP, some singles and recently on March 7, 2024, they released their full album "Half an hour of butchering". The band brings together characteristics in its sound that have not yet been seen together.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Previously we had released singles from our new album "Half an hour of butchering", however the album was released entirely with the bonus of two unreleased songs.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
There are already some shows and festivals in Europe that we are going to play and we will announce them soon. Furthermore, we intend to tour across Europe in a near future.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Make our sound heard by more and more people.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
All of our songs, including our new album "Half an hour of butchery" can be heard on all major digital platforms. For the sale of material, we are finishing improving our sales platform so that it can serve audiences all over the world, and in addition we also have material for sale at our concerts.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Hatred of impositions.
